Got the spare parts, and managed to replace the main body. Works well, just as good as it was 15 years ago.

Let’s see how much time I get on this week. Would be great to finish the white base layer.

I got to this point once with my airbrush, and then couldn't get it back together again. It lucks like you had better luck than I did, Csaba (@pikofix).

@gblair yes, it can be tricky to assembly these airbrushes. Luckily mine came with an exploded view drawing and complete list of spare parts. I also took photos and notes during the disassembly process. However, it was an expensive lesson - better to be careful, and not to disassembly the valve anymore.

@fiveten and @johnb - better than it was originally! 🙂

The first layer of yellow is on the plane!

I used my pre-mixed paint, Tamiya XF-3 with a small amount of red and blue to make it more like a trainer yellow color. It will require at least 3 more applications - especially on the upper side of the lower wing. Most probably I have to very carefully sand or polish the paint there. Unfortunately there are many dust particles in the paint. I started with that part, and the paint dried too fast, probably already in the air. Today was quite warm here. I added a bit more retarder and decreased the spraying distance on the other parts, those are fine.

The tone of that pre-mixed yellow looks great, Csaba.

Love the yellow, my friend @pikofix! I am really glad to see this extremely well built Po-2 receiving some paint!

Great intermediate pictures Csaba! (Is that a Ki-61 I see on the table) Yellow do take a few more layers to get it right than most other colors, but it is going to be worth it.

Finally the masks are off the wing. It turned out quite good, but small touch-ups will be needed here and there.
The colors are very vivid, I think I will follow my original plan, and tone the scheme down with oil paints later.
Today I am working on the fuselage, and the lower wing, and hopefully later this week I can spray the black sections as well.

Thanks @johnb and @fiveten - I bough only a "mini" version of the Tamiya XF-3, and today I the 10ml bottle is almost empty! My eyes are calibrated to 1:72 scale monoplanes, and did not expect that I have to spray an entire bottle of paint on it. Of course many-many layers are on, but it was still a surprise to see a nearly empty bottle.

@airbum - I try to document my builds better, it is quite fun to write down everything. Nope, no Ki-61 on the desk. I can´t recall if I have ever made a Japanese plane. Should put it on that endless project wish list.

That pattern looks great, Csaba @pikofix

What a nice pattern - I like your HD tool! (I realise that what I thought was a jap plane was just the linedrawing background of your PO-2 scaleplans) Anyway the plane is going to look awesome in these colors.

You are much braver than I am Csaba (@pikofix). Trying something that requires precision masking just isn't in my tool bag. Well done!
