I recently acquired a Revell F-105 kit that had been part of a large collection of kits. It hadn’t been stored well, and the box & decals were ruined by heat, cold, & humidity.

Today I decided to get started on it.
I’ve painted and assembled the cockpit.
It’s off to a good start.

    For such a large
model, it doesn’t have very many parts. The instrument panels are well detailed . There are two nicely detailed aviator figures. And a good selection of munitions: bombs & missiles . Apparently the F carried the bombs and the G carried missiles to deal with SAM sites. The missiles look really nice. It also has three drop tanks.

This one is going to be a silver F-105. Similar to the one in this photograph.

Hi Jay. You are off to a good start. The cockpit looks great. You have succeeded in making all that raised details stand out creating a realistic looking cockpit. I am looking forward to your progress on this build. Well done.

    Thank you , @mornem , @fiveten , @johnb !
The cockpit is very nicely made and easy to paint and assemble, not overly complex, nor too basic.

The Fuselage halves have been joined together.

One nice feature of this kit is the wing spar. It really helps position the wings properly and adds strength to the wing/fuselage joint, just like on a real aircraft. 😉

    Thanks , Spiros @fiveten !

Monogram really put a lot of thought in to designing their kits, more so then some newer ones I’ve come across .

Nice work here ! Older Monogram kits rule ! I really like what you are doing with your "Thud". I'm looking forward to the next installment.

    Thanks , Louis @lgardner , I appreciate your encouragement !
I know there are newer “ better” kits available, but I gravitate towards older kits. I have a closet full of them.

The wings are now attached to the fuselage, the drop tanks are assembled. The wings fit excellent when attached to the fuselage, with only very minor areas needing filled.

I also started painting the loud end of the aircraft. For much of it I blended together silver & black “ Rub n buff”, an old school, low tech approach . The inside was painted black with some dry brushed silver paint to highlight the detail on the turbine face plate at the back of the engine.

It’s going together well, there are some seams to deal with, which seems normal. However, there are no large gaps to contend with.
The drop tanks are the worst area as far as seams go. It seems like there is a slight step between the two halves in places.

Nice progress, my friend @ssgt! The Rubb,n Buff seems to yield great results!
