I remember the first time I saw an F-105 at the Miramar air show, probably 1969 or 1970. It was huge! This kit is really nice and I am sure you will do it justice. An amazing machine.

    Great progress, Jay @ssgt
Never heard about the Rub n Buff but it does a real good job, the engine parts look really nice.

Thank you, @jeff-carle , and @johnb for the comments. The F-105 is a giant aircraft, I’ve seen some in museums , I think it is one of the best looking fighters the USAF has used.

The people standing near this F-105 give an idea how big it is.

I don’t use Rub n Buff often, but since I had some at hand, I thought I’d use it.

A Big Bird indeed, my friend @ssgt!

Great choice, Jay (@ssgt), especially in natural metal. Your cockpit looks great. I always forget how large some of these old Monogram Century Series planes are. I built an F-102 a couple of years ago and it really took up a lot of shelf space. When I graduated from pilot training, there were still a few assignments in F-105s coming down. No one in my class got one, but the class ahead of us got one.

Looks great Jay! @ssgt I've been intrigued by this kit for some time now and seeing your progress is inspiring me to add it to my wish list. Looks like you will have to clear out some serious shelf space however! Excellent progress so far, looking forward to seeing it finished in all of it's natural metal glory!

Coming along splendidly Jay! @ssgt 🍻 Good ol' Monogram does usually provide a lot of bang for the buck, and the kits are a great "canvas" upon which a modeler can create very nice "art". I'm excited to see this one being built as I have it and a Monogram F-106 in the stash to complete my Century Series collection.
    Build on brother! 😃

The seams on the drop tanks have been pretty much dealt with, or are at least much better.

Found a photo of some aviators in the cockpit of a F-105, I think I’ll put the kit pilots in mine. I glued on their arms this morning and also painted the glare shield black with some white dry brushed highlights.

Maybe orange flight suits would look good. I’m not sure how often or why orange flight suits were worn, but it would add visual Interest to the model.

Thanks David @dbutlr , it’s a nice kit. Some people don’t like the raised panel lines , but it’s never bothered me enough to sand them off or not build it.

I agree, Gary @garybrantley , Monogram kits are a good value, or at least they were. I’d like to get the Voodoo.

Your F-102 looks very nice in those photos taken at the airport.
You need to build your 105 & 106 now to go with it. The 105 doesn’t need a lot of filler, I don’t think.

The only operational century series jets I saw during my time in the Air Guard in the early 80s, George @gblair , was a NASA F-104 and a couple F-106s that had stopped at our base on the transit side of the ramp. There was also a F-101B with “Colorado State University” painted on the sides. The main gear doors had flames painted on them and on the nose a ghost with the name “ Gray Ghost” . It was there for years and almost over night it was gone. It is now at a museum in Topeka Kansas, in regulation AF paint scheme.

The tanks do look great from here, Jay @ssgt
Good idea to use the pilots, it will make the build look more dynamic.

@ssgt, Thanks Jay! 🍻 My CS completed builds are a Monogram F-100D, Monogram RF-101B, the Monogram 102, and an ancient Testors (ex-Hawk) F-104A. Those birds just about fill one shelf in the display. My OCD wants all the series together...gonna be tough to do with the 105 and 106! 😁

Here's a couple of pics of the F-105 displayed at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Addison, Texas (Dallas suburb), taken several years ago now:

Any 105 looks great, with or without occupants, Jay (@ssgt). I went to pilot training in the mid-1970s, so the assignments that came down for my class were F-4Cs and F-4Es, an F-105, some A-7s, a couple of OV-10s, a couple of O-2 Skymasters, as well as some KC-135s, C-130s, C-141s, one C-5, as well as a few instructor positions in T-37s and T-38s. We had some interesting assignments, for sure.
