That was quite a few parts for a sight. Built into a nicely detailed representation Chuck!

Build continues to move along nicely, Chuck (@uscusn), Tamiya glass is really nice, except when I am building the kit. After I have sealed everything up, I usually notice a giant fingerprint right in the middle of an important piece of glass. You have managed to build the gunsight and canopy without messing up the glass...and all this time I thought it was Tamiya's fault. :o)

Erik I was thinking the same thing in how the gun sight was quite more than several parts.
Thanks George, Tam glass so far in every kit has been crystal clear. And yes always mindful of leaving fingerprints or marring it with cement when not being careful.
This session will start with masking off the glass. Using Eduard's masking set.

    First with the windscreen.

The canopy is temporally placed with white glue during this phase. Once set then masked off.

Next is to finish pre shading the wings and air frame.

Under sides a bit more including within the wheel bays which I air brush completely with Tamiya Flat Black.

Next to air brush the undersides with Tamiya Gloss white

Next the Gloss White is airbrushed over the under side of the main fuselage and inner wing panels.

Not shown are the doors, struts and tail wheel assy and wheel hubs are also painted Gloss White.

Next to paint the canopy frames Interior Green and then start the upper paint scheme.

    More to follow.

Pre-shading is such a pain, but it always looks good after you are done. Great job, Chuck (@uscusn). I have been trying to do the same thing with the Shaders by Mig, as well as Weathering Pencils, that I think are from AK.

Thanks Spiros and John, the Tamiya Gloss White really provides great coverage. After a couple of coats.
George yes but I am so used to it now that it is like 2nd nature, but I have been using other dark colors not just black. Seems to work. I have also started to use Mig and AK weathering stuff as well for the post weathering after the paint scheme has been airbrushed and decaled before dull coating.

Now to go over the top. First to temporarily attach the canopy.

Then paint the canopy framework Interior Green.

Next up will paint the upper surfaces Mission Models, Dark Sea Blue flat acrylic.

This paint just lays down very well no clogging. Top surfaces leaving the areas that will be Intermediate Blue exposed.

Free handing the Dk Blue which the demarcation lines are feathered in not sharp edged.

Next is to apply the Intermediate Sea Blue using Gunze Mr Hobby acrylics. Love this stuff.

Starting with the lower wing panels.

Next to feather in the color in the unpainted section along the sides of the fuselage and tail.

This color covers very well. Semi gloss finish.

Before apply the clear coat, going over with the white to even the upper colors demarcation line.
Then applying the Future (Pledge) gloss coat and let it sit a week.

Next is to apply the decals.

    More to follow.

The airbrush work looks great, Chuck (@uscusn). I have never tried Mission Model paints, but it looks like they work well. Their range of colors is spectacular, so you have convinced me I need to try some. Also looking forward to the decals.

Thanks John and George, just very comfortable with my Paasche H model single action airbrush. Using a #1 tip.
Spiros, thanks now it is decal time.

Using Sky Models decal set 48043, which have 2 F4U-1D schemes, both are the 3 tone US Navy scheme of Dark Sea Blue/Intermediate Blue over white. This will be of a Corsair that operated out of the Ardmore Air Base in Auckland New Zealand, Oct 1944.

Decals look good, in register and thin. Starting as usual with the lower national makings on the wings. This scheme will have no stencils.

Next the side marking and squadron codes. The decals so far are performing very well. No silvering.

The top marking are applied to the outer wing panels.

The prop markings are applied as well.

Once they are set, still in the clear coat, a wash is applied underneath to dirty it up a bit.

A wash is applied into the wing folds.

Final finish before applying pin wash and chipping.

Looking at reference photos and the So. Pacific environment, on an air frame that flew quite a few combat sorties. So some leaks, fuel stains and other wear and tear will carefully be show but not crazy over done.

Gun exhausts stains from the shell ejector chutes.

Chipping in high wear areas, leading edges, fasteners.

And also not to forget to cut out carefully the decal covering the landing lamp.

Next to start installing the final details. Starting with the landing gear.

    more to follow...

The decals look terrific, Chuck (@uscusn). If have several sets of Sky Decals, but haven't used them yet. It looks like they perform very well. The weathering really adds to the overall effect. Looking forward to everything coming together.

That is serious progress, Chuck @uscusn
Decals came on nicely and the applied weathering is very realistic.
