    Thanks Erik, this kit will be carefully weathered, just to get the feel of operating in Southern Europe.
    Spiros, John and George, I just placed a drop of stain over each gas cap cover, then took the airbrush and blew air over each filler to create the wind flow that shows the overflow of fuel or spillage in the direction that would reflect that.

    Next is to start work on the turbo chargers on each boom.


    Starting with the cooling scoops, 2 on each side. In hindsight should've install these before painting. But the fit is so good that there is no issue installing them at this point.

    At this time using a silver prismacolor pencil to chip away leading edges, walk way areas, service/maintenance panels and fasteners.

    Next the masks were removed from the canopy.

    A bit more chipping on the inner wing panel to the cockpit, lots of chipping here to show that effect.

    The lower counter weight is installed under the horizontal center stab.

    The masks are removed from landing lamps under the wings.

    Now to start on the turbos. Painted burnt metal.

    One installed on each side.

    Next the heat shield is installed just forward of the turbine housing. These are not painted yet.

    Next the feed tube is installed on top of each turbine housing.

    Next the turbo unit is then painted burnt metal the given a light wash of rust to give it a heated over time look.

    The filler panel between the forward turbo and rear unit is installed.

    Next the front extension is installed.

    Next up is the landing gear, this will be fun.

    Now let's get her on her feet. Starting with the nose gear. I have been looking so forward into finally getting to this step.

    Just 2 parts for the nose gear. The strut and retraction actuator. Molotow Chrome pen to detail the oleo.

    First the actuator is installed then the nose gear strut. As expected the parts neatly snapped into place.

    Next the main gear. This is the first kit in this scale as far as I know in building the Academy, Hasegawa and the Monogram P-38 that supplied the coolers that are mounted uniquely on the Lightning's main gear. First the strut and scissors.

    The scissors are attached to the main gear strut.

    Next to assemble the oil coolers.

    A little tricky at first but just have some patience and the coolers fit just fine into the gear strut.

    The assemble main gear strut is inserted into the wheel bay. Don't remember any other kit with such a busy gear bay stock from the kit.

    All 3 landing gear struts installed.

    The Tam Lightning despite all the parts required to assemble that landing gear, sits nice and level, maybe too level as it should have a nose up appearance.

    Otherwise she is on her feet less the wheels.

    Next the gear bay doors, and wheels.

    Posture is good, though, like you, I wouldn't mind with a tad more nose up!

    The results from that chrome pen are great.
    I still remember building this kit and how occupied these bays were.
    Everything fits perfectly on this kit like you described.

    I just came across your great build here. And you reminded me that I need to use the Molotov pens I have and forgot about when it comes to painting oleos. I have learned not to touch them once the chrome dries. I will be using some of your techniques once I start my 38 F/G that’s been sitting on the shelf for a year. Looks great so far Chuck.
