Like you George (@gblair) I always thought the plastic was identical. I was always of the opinion that I can build any model even if its not the original manufacturer's release. So If I had to buy an Italeri release of an Accurate Miniature's SBD Dauntless, I could tell myself, I was able to get an example of the best SBD Dauntless kit available. I didn't care if the box is Italeri or Acc Min as long as the plastic is the same. There is the possibility of mold wear causing more flash and warpage, but I would expect the parts to be the same otherwise.

I sprayed the black primer on everything yesterday, so today I sprayed the interior green. I used Vallejo Model Air, thinned about 30% with their Airbrush Thinner. This gives me a thin mix that allows the dark base to show through, and also allows me to build the color in a series of layers. I then mixed some white to lighten the base color and sprayed some highlights. I did a little detail painting, but that was about all I had time for today. Tomorrow I hope to start assembling the parts and then hopefully close the fuselages.

Hi, Spiros (@fiveten) and John (@johnb). Things are moving along. Hope to get close to closing the fuselage up for the other two.

I spent the day getting all of the interior parts ready to assemble and added to the fuselage. Only the Revell kit furnished decals for the instrument panel and seat belts, so I used some old school decals from the storage locker to answer the call. Back in the mid-90s, both Monogram and IPMS offered sheets of decals for instrument panels and seatbelts. They are for specific airplanes, but I have used them in the past to stand-in for a variety of airplanes. I did a little cut and piece to make them work for the Hudsons. The decals worked perfectly for the pilot's seat, which has shoulder harnesses. The rest of the seats, which don't have shoulder harnesses, required me to cut off the shoulder harnesses and just use the seatbelts. The extra shoulder harness portions that I cut off came in handy for the pilot's seat, which was taller than the decal shoulder harnesses. The instrument panel was created using pieces of a P-51B panel, a P-51D panel, and a P-39 panel. I think the Frankenstein seatbelts and instrument panels will work fine in the small cockpit. I spent some time doing some detail painting. I finished by sealing everything in a coat of clear flat. Assembly tomorrow.

The goal for today was to watch some college football, but I managed to get everything painting and prepped for gluing into the fuselage. All of the interior parts have been identical in all three kits. I did manage to lose the control wheel from the Italeri kit, which twanged off into oblivion. I stole a photoetch wheel from a PE set I had for a 1/72 Lockheed Ventura. Right after I had everything glued and painted, I found the missing wheel. I always find missing stuff when I don't need it any more. Cheers.

Thanks, Spiros (@fiveten). Most of mine disappear, so this is one of the first ones to save itself.

I have a large plastic sheet on the floor for my roll around chair and I still lose parts like this all the time. It happens so often that I consider it part of the price of doing business! 🙂
