Tamiya 1:48 A-1H Skyraider.

November 26, 2012 · in Aviation · · 10 · 5K

This is my A-1 . Really it is a nice kit to build, it is out of the box except for the guns, made of hypodermic needles. Painted with Gunze acrylics and weathered with oils.
Hope you like it!
Best regards.

Emeterio.

  1. Like it? I love it! I'm gonna (attempt to) copy this weathering on my 1/72 scale Spad, currently waiting for the final touches. The exhaust stains, are they all done by airbrush and freehand?

  2. Thank you very much for your kind words. The stains were made by airbrush at a first stage, then I applied a burnt sienna + black oil colours properly diluted with humbrol thinner with a fine brush in the direction of the air flow.

  3. I've seen several Tamiya Spads done with excellent results...much like yours. I'd have to say that this one ranks in the top 5 - very nice work.

  4. FANTASTIC! Beautifully done Skyraider with well done exhaust stains.

  5. Very well done, you really have a beautiful finish and the weathering is great. It looks from the one picture that your cockpit really turned out nice. I would also like to compliment you one your base. I like the grass growing through the PSP it really helps set the kit off. You have a real eye catcher there.

  6. Beautiful exhaust stains, and awesome base detailing! Gorgeous!

  7. Really nice. Having been around these airplanes "back in the day," you can safely operate on the theory "too much is not enough" when it comes to exhaust staining. The R-3350 is one dirty engine. You definitely "got it."

Like Tom said ... being around these "in the day," the pics are SOOO REAL
one CAN still imagine the sounds of one cranking the engine up !

  9. This raider is just amazing. Love the crispness and perfect weathering. Fantastico.
