Airfix 1/72 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I (Pre-war)
For my first contribution to iModeler.com I present Airfix's nicely retooled 1/72 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I / IIa kit. Since returning to the hobby I've had a few fails and it feels really good to complete something for the display shelf. By no means is this a great Spitfire and I'm sure the Spitfire experts will see all of my mistakes. My goal with this project was just to build modeling skills and finish something.

Looks pretty good to me, And 'rivet counters' be damned.

Looks pretty damned good to me! Did the kit come with weighted wheels?
Matthew Sorensen said on April 6, 2013
Yup, came with the weighted tires. It's little things like that I think why Airfix is making great come back.

Many of the new Airfix kits do, which IMHO is a nice touch.

Airfix making a comeback? In my opinion, Airfix never fell from grace. I cut my teeth on the bagged Airfix kits and still have a few in my stash. I like the fact that Airfix is re-tooling some of its kits though. Anyway, you're doing it right! When I returned to the hobby, I started small and simple, adding to my skill-set with each subsequent build. Do not be so much concerned with impressing others as with impressing yourself. If I am pleased with one of my builds then thats all that matters to me. Whats your next build gonna be?

Hard to say Seamus, I do know it will be a 1/72 scale aircraft again. I got a few to choose from in the stash. for some reason though the Dragon 1/72 Gloster Meteor F.1 is catching my eye. What can I say I'm an American with a thing for roundels. 🙂

Good looking Spit. If your like me I enjoy making an inexpesive kit look as good as I can.

Nice one! I knew from your WIP post that this would be a good un. Nice to see an early Spit for a change.
