Just out of interest

February 17, 2014 · in Automotive · 12 · 1.1K

Following on from Al's recent posting about NASCAR, and the queries on the 1/43 scale, I thought I would show you my collection of 1950's Formula One cars. These are diecast toys made by Dinky Toys, roughly to 1/43 scale. I've pictured them on an A4 cutting mat to give you some idea of the size, but they are approx 2 1/2 inches long. I think 1/43 was chosen to be an ideal size for collectors and kids, and it is also the same scale as 'O' gauge model railways. Anyway, my brother and I had these toys when we were kids in the 1950's, and they were much used and abused. About 35 years ago I re-discovered them, and due to their condition decided to try and bring them back to their former glory and I still have them now. Mint condition, original examples, with their boxes are worth a lot of money now, but these are almost worthless but are still fun to look at. There are six in the series, Maserati and HWM

, Ferrari and Cooper Bristol and Talbot Lago and Alfa Romeo .

Hope you find them interesting, and thanks for looking.

    Thanks for sharing George.

  3. George,
These are great to look at. It is really nice that you still have them after all these years. The value to you yourself is worth more than any amount of money.

  5. I like 'em as well,I definately wouldn't write them off as worthless ,here in the U.K. this kind of stuff has always had a healthy market.

  6. Classic racers from the classic age George.
    Nice to see them posted.

  7. Thanks for posting. I had a bunch of military Dinky toys as a kid, great memories.

  8. I love them, George ! They remind me of a few of my old toys I still have laying around. More memories ! I'll bet those little cars have a lot of laps on them.

  9. George, those are little beauties! I also have built up quite a diecast car collection over the years, mainly 1/43 but also several 1/18. More recent vintage than yours, and I doubt they are as collectable as yours! Thanks so much for showing, they do bring back memories.
