Sorry to report, the Gladiator was shot down….

August 10, 2014 · in Aviation · · 13 · 1.5K

Some of you might remember I was building a 1/32 Sea Gladiator for the Nats, thanks to all who wished me well but 'twas not to be. The competition was pretty intense, including several Wingnut Wings thingies. (That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it). But at least it got built, without the impetus of the deadline, it would still be in the closet, and I am very happy with it.

Surprisingly, my 1/32 Fiat G-50 also in 1/32, did bring in a second place award, despite the flaws I knew all about. One never knows. Also, the recently posted here Mad Max Police Interceptor brung a third. So not so shabby.

It was a great show, had a great time, and thanks again guys. I am posting pics here if you're interested.

  1. Hey Bill, two out of three ain`t bad as the song goes.
    Looks like you enjoyed yourself.

  2. Bill, congratulations on your awards. But most important you've enjoyed yourself and produced some really excellent models and shared them with friends.

  3. way to go...wasn't that b-17 diorama incredible

  4. Congratulations Bill! That sounds like a good showing to me.

  5. Take good care of it and enter it in the next one...it deserves a blue ribbon (or whatever it is they award).

  6. Congratulations Bill, on the prizes won. I have never been in a competition, but I suppose at that level there are many entries that could take the prize. As Craig said, keep trying. It certainly deserves the gold!

  7. Sounds like you had a good show. In addition to your awards did you take home some goodies for your stash?
Hopefully we will cross paths next year in Columbus.

    • Ooh ya. Got the 1/32 brandy-new Silver Wings P6-E to keep that resin juice flowing. Also the new 1/32 IAR80C from Azur, and something I was looking for, a 1/48 Kawasaki Ki-60 from Planet Models also resin. All were NOT cheep. Another thing I was happy with was a set of 4 Japanese pilots in 1/32 doing a sake toast, from Zoukie-Mura. This set will really go well with the Hasegawa George. Thinking about Columbus, maybe...

  8. Congratulations, Bill, and glad you had a good time.

  9. Bill,
You had my vote on the Gladiator. Congratulations on your other win.
