1/48 Eduard Supermarine Spitfire HF.Mk.VIII, JF322/”Billy Boy II” of First Squadron, South African Air Force, Flown by Lt. D.S. Hastie on 19 March 1944 to down a Bf109G.
Two desert pattern Spitfires in one day! What a good day.
I especially like the chippings of your's and I'd love to hear your comment about how you did them.
Thanks Ayhan. Sorry to be penetrant: hairspray technique all the way down or only for the wing roots?
The chippings of the ammunition bays are super fine in your model and very realistic. Cheers if you managed to do that with hairspray technique.
Ayhan thanks for posting this one. As a South African I take pride when seeing SAAF aircraft modelled. Your SAAF Spit looks awesome. I like the desert scheme and weathering very much. The Billy Boys as pilots of 1 Squadron were known, were some of the best in the SAAF. SAAF ops moved from North Africa to Italy Foggia airbase. Many ops were flown against German forces in the Balkans in support of Tito's partisans. Some of these veterans later saw action in Korea with the famed 2 Cheetah squadron. Again well done Ayhan!
truly convincing nice done and build and paint
I have a few books on the SAAF and it is well documented.
Thank you

Hi Halvar,
Answer is simple. Hairspray technique. 🙂
