iModeler Awards – February
It's high time to reveal the results of of our February retrospective. I'm sure that most of our readers will be well familiar with our long-standing tradition of awarding a prize among all articles of the month.
Time to look back at our February entries, the month that brought us 118 new articles and 1851 comments.
iModeler Best in Show – February 2017
Once in a while, models that we could call "standard" can take the centre stage in our monthly judging roundup. By the term "standard" I mean kits completed in a way that the manufacturers intended, with limited addition of extras and topped with a great finish. You know - it's the type of modeling that most of us practice and love, and which is represented in abundance in the iModeler's archives. It would appear that this type of modeling (with some notable exceptions) has taken the main stage at iModeler in February!
With such an even starting field it might be useful to remind the three core principles of our judging. Firstly, we only evaluate what we see (here's where the value of good photography comes forward). Secondly, its the model that counts, not the the number of hours put into completing it. If it looks great, it is great! Lastly, modeling is a form of art where there ar no absolute "truths". That's why we always judge as a team, sharing and respecting each others' point of view.
With these conditions in mind this was another tough round for our judges @aisak, @magnusf, @halvarvonflake, @rickard-malmborg and @editor but finally after many discussions we have a verdict - if only by a narrow margin!
The jury's award goes to Marvin Reyes' 1/72 scale Hobby Boss Ka-29 "Helix-B" helicopter. This model certainly captures the squat attitute of the original. Marvin succeeded in making the most of the kit's detail by some clever painting, and also opted to add two or three strategically chosen details that were just enough to bring the model to another level. A variety of weathering makes the result even more interesting to look at.
Sometimes less is just right.

But wait, there is more! – the Random Award
We are also awarding a prize as a token of appreciation to all our contributors. It is selected through an entirely random draw among all the entries of the month. This time, our lucky winner is Dirk Derks, report from the Model Expo in Zeeland Hallen on 18/19 February 2017 (see also Part 2 here). Thank you for bringing in all the show reports to iModeler - we love modeling shows!

Well done to all whon contribute to this great forum.
Well done everyone
Thank you very much for the award...I really appreciate your thoughtfulness. I am simply amazed that you have chosen my work for recognition, given all of the outstanding work that I see here on Imodeler, on a daily basis. This really made my day; I have a club meeting tonight where I will share the good news. Thanks again!
Fine choices all.
Marvin's Helix-B really is the business, less is definitely more, and congratulations to all the prize winners, well deserved.
Great choices - and congrats Marvin! Worthy selection for winner!
Congratulations to the judges for thinking out side of the box and taking a good look at Marvin's Helix-B. Its great to see a Helo in the winners circle and deservedly so. What with the painting and details. Some real eye candy.
Excellent choices made by the judges. They are all worthy picks, built by very talented modelers.
Congratulations to all. It would be very hard for me to pick just one...
A wonderful bunch of models and I can't agree more that Marvin deserved top choice this month. A great model, that is really well done.
I also have to say, that I consider it a privilege to be even mentioned among so many wonderful builds, its nice to get some recognition, but its a little more special when it comes from the model guys you share with. Good work, guys !
Marvin's helix is "the bee's knees," as they used to say. it's all in the execution.
Congrats to all ! Especially Marvin's "Helix-B".
Well done to all the winners!
A great win for the most bizarre helicopter I've ever seen! Fantastic skills on a rare subject. Well done to all the other winners also.
