Airfix 1:72 Boulton Paul Defiant. new tooling

May 4, 2017 · in Aviation · · 18 · 2.9K

As I've just joined iModeler, finding my way around, I like to share one of my recent builds.

introduced the new tooling for the Boulton Paul in 1:72 scale, and I allways had an intrest in this somewhat unusual fighter.

It was a joy to build and it looks the part. It also comes with a choice of canopies, open or closed. A reasonable detailed interior with a poseable gun turret, Pilot and gunner figures are included, however I did not use them.

From the 2 options in the box I've chosen the all black nightfighter from RAF No. 151 Squadron in february 1941.

To give it a little "used" appearance on the clean black, a very dilluted wash with dark grey and some pastel powders (dark rust and grey) did the job.

I hope you like it.

  1. Nicely finished, Ferry - I like it. And let me be the first to welcome you to iModeler (a very user-friendly site) - I'm sure you'll learn to love it here. 🙂

    Good looking defiant Ferry.

  3. Ferry, a great looking Defiant, especially being in 1/72 scale. I actually thought it was 1/48 scale at first as your attention to detail came out great. It always seems that a one color paint scheme always adds a higher level of difficulty, especially to make it interesting and attractive, you've done that here. Very nice work !
And welcome to imodeler, a nice bunch of guys here !

  4. Welcome aboard! Great work on the Defiant. As mentioned, it's tough to make a one-color scheme interesting but you've done it!

  5. Ferry, welcome! Nice looking Defiant!

  6. Hmm I think I did that one some 40 years ago, Airfix old Defiant. Like it in black. Welcome to iModeler, hope you find it comfortable here.

  7. Thank you very much guys for your warm welcome and nice comments. Very much appreciated.
Looking forward to get to know more of all the modeling work which is shared her on iModeler and the modellers them selves offcourse .

  8. A great build sir . Polystyrene virus, I love it.. and have it. Welcome sir.

  9. Welcome aboard Sir ! This is a great website, (as I'm sure you have finding out). Your Defiant looks great. Thanks for sharing it with us. I really like it...

I have the 1/48 larger cousin "New Airfix" release that I recently won as the Monthly Radom Award here on Imodeler. I plan on starting a build thread for it as soon as the Midway Group Build has completed. I have heard nothing but mostly good stuff about the newer Airfix releases.

Yours is another fine example of this. Thanks again and welcome aboard.

    • Thank you Louis, happy to be part of this community, and looking forward to share more in the future. So much to discover here, I'm running out of time. Looking forward to your build of the 1:48 scale version too.

  10. Yes good looking model Ferry, I have one to build myself in black, welcome to iModeler.

  11. Great work, Ferry! I started on here about 6 months ago and the people here have been nothing but fantastic, that whole time. I now find myself checking in every day - the virus is strong! I'm certain you will have great fun here.

  12. I like your Defiant, Ferry, you've managed to make the all black finish look realistic, and, again, welcome to iModeler.

  13. Nice Defiant Ferry, and in my favorite scale 🙂
