1/48 Fine Molds Mitsubishi A7M1 Reppu "Sam"

June 26, 2017 · in Aviation · 16 · 3.1K

Hello Modelers

After a long time, I would like to present one of my recent complete model.
The Mitsubishi A7M1 Reppu code Sam.
This kit represents the prototype version of this airplane. Not many of them were built before the end of the second World War. Kit goes together with no real pain, the fit was perfect. Painted using mainly Tamiya X-7 orange mixed with Tamiya XF-3 flat yellow. Weathering was done using Flory models Grime wash all over it. I try to keep weathering to the minimum due to the prototype version. Engine smoke has done using Tamiya X-19 smoke with a little of engine gray. I think that's it. Hope you enjoy it. [smile]

  1. Cool! Iยดve been thinking of building this and now when I see how nicely it can be done I might give it a go. Love the golden orange!

  2. Hi Michal
Congratulations for this spectacular orange colour.
May I ask what colour you used to pre shade the panel lines under the transparent orange layer?
The usual black or dark grey would be to visible I guess, so whas it red or brown or other?

  3. Very nice, Michal...I like it a lot. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Thanks Guys for such nice comments. Regarding color, for pre-shading panel lines, I used Tamiya Red Brown.

  5. Nice clean build! I really like the color you achieved for the "trainer orange." The color I used for my Grace turned out too orange for my taste - this one really looks nice.

  6. Michal, I have to admit I never really cared for this paint scheme, but I also have to admit this looks great ! The more I look at it, the more I like it !
    Well done !

  7. Beautifully built & painted Michal. This is the first time I've seen a model of the Reppu & I think it looks great, so top marks to you & Fine Molds. I like your 'clean' weathering too; just right for a prototype.

  8. BEAUTIFUL in every aspect. Well done!

  9. Two thumbs up Sir ! I really like this one...

  10. What a beautiful looking build Michal ๐Ÿ™‚ I always liked the lines of the A7M.

  11. Michal, that' s just pretty! Love the orange you mixed.

  12. Had the Japanese started the war with this aircraft and 100 octane gasoline I shutter think what would have happened. Great, photos, build and use of paint.
    Two thumbs up.

  13. Beautifully done & painted, Michal! These Japanese prototype planes are very interesting.

As Stepen said; "Had the Japanese started the war with this aircraft and 100 octane gasoline I shudder think what would have happened."
