Bell X-1 - The mach buster
On October 14, 1947, Charles E. “Chuck” Yeager became the first person to fly faster than the speed of sound in his Bell X-1, which he named Glamorous Glennis, in tribute to his wife. He reached a speed of 1,127 kilometers (700 miles) per hour, or Mach 1.06, at an altitude of 13,000 meters (43,000 feet).
Nice little build...I did the Revell one in 48th scale way back when (before the name "Glamorous Glennis" was deleted from the decal sheet). Mine was more Orange, though. Not real sure just WHAT color it was. 🙁
Back before the biggest bimbo in aviation started copyrighting all things Yeager and I lost all interest in someone stupid enough to be interested in someone who was so obviously someone who should have been thrown over a cliff on sight.

I always remembered the comment the bystander made to Pappy Boyington- (who always said "Show me a hero, and I'll show you a bum!"). The guy told Pappy to enjoy it, 'cause he'd be sweeping the streets later on. The weight of heroism is sometimes too much for folks, later on.Better to remember them as they were, than as they now may be.
