1/72 Handley Page Victor B.2 (BS), RAF100 Group Build, 1960’s.
This is the recent Airfix kit, released in 2016. I built it pretty much straight from the box except for the addition of PE detail to the airbrakes. This is a prominent visual feature of the Victor and benefited from Eduard's brass etch. The model is highly detailed with a complete flight deck. Almost none of this can be seen, but was enjoyable and educational to build and paint. The design and engineering of this kit is top notch, especially in the area of the intakes. It has been designed so as to virtually eliminate visible seams. The Victor is my favorite of the V bombers and Airfix did it justice with this kit. I painted it with Tamiya lacquer and acrylic white, Floquil Old Silver, and various Humbrol enamels. The decals were in register with good color but were a bit stiff. They snuggled down with a couple applications of Future. The model represents a Victor equipped with a Blue Steel cruise missile, 139 (Jamaica) Squadron, 1964.
John that really looks nice, and also big for 1/72. Nicely done I like the way she looks.
Thanks, Tom. It is big!
splendid john
Thanks, Bob!
Looks great! I never realized just how prominent those airbrakes were until seeing your build.
Thanks, Greg! They’re real focal points.
John very impressive in this scale. The overall white normally is a tough scheme to do. But you pulled it off with a magnificent build of the Victor. I have 2 of the older Revell/matchbox kits which building one of them is not an easy task. I also have the complete High flight PE resin set for it that really will help it. Looks like the more recent Airfix kit is much easier to build. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Chuck! Yes it’s much nicer then the old Matchbox kit. It’s such a futuristic design that it looks great in overall white.
Really impressive, liked!
I agree with you in appreciating the Victor's design. Unfortunately this kit would result too large for my room. may be I will try a Victor in 1/144 some day!
Thanks, Peter! You’re in luck. Great Wall Hobbies makes a 1/144 Victor kit.
Museum quality workmanship, John. Well modelled sir.
Ian.
Thanks, Ian!
Well done John, looks good, nice clean white !
Thanks Allan! The white suits it well.
John, this is a monster in many ways! The size for 1/72 is phenomenal. And the build itself has been outstanding from the moment the WIP started. Another brilliant contribution. Congratulations!
Thanks, Paul! It’s an impressive kit in every way, especially the design and engineering. Very enjoyable project. Thanks again for running this group build!
Great job! It does look futuristic.
Thanks Robert! You’d never guess the design is nearly 70 years old.
Hello John,
Thanks for sharing your latest with us. Good to read that you were very pleased with the way Airfix laid out the construction. It is a remarkable aircraft, most impressive is the complete horizontal and vertical stabilizer. (angle).
Regards, Dirk
Thanks, Dirk. I liked this model so much that I’m tempted to get the K.2 tanker kit. Space is an issue though. I have a large shelving unit for 1/72 bombers and it’s getting a little tight.
WOW. This looks amazing from every angle. It was the nicest looking of the V-bombers from my point of view. The crescent shaped wing just adds to its beauty. I must definitely buy this kit next year! Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks, Morne! The K.2 tanker is available now too.
