C-47 Search and Rescue

July 1, 2019 · in Aviation · · 23 · 2.6K

This is the 1/200th scale Skytrain Search and Rescue kit released in 2000. I believe the original model was released in 1994 as a DC-3 with All Nippon Airways markings.

This kit made back in 2000. It's painted with the now long gone, Aeromaster Acrylics.

Doors and other details are represented as decals. If memory serves me correctly, chevrons on the underside of the fuselage, were also supplied as decals, I chose to paint these, as it would be far easier than using the decals provided. The ailerons were highlighted with black gauche to make them stand out more.

I really can't remember much about making the model, other than after I'd finished it, I wanted to get the D-Day version. But alas, couldn't find one at the time. The model is approximately 4 inches long (100mm), with a wingspan of approximately 6 inches long (150mm).

  1. Nice work! Thought at first it was a larger scale, love the scheme.

  2. I like the livery, quite appealing

  3. Good gravy, that is stunning for the scale! If it weren't for the "decal doors," I would have said it was 1/72! Very nice.

  4. I totally agree with all the above - great work!

  5. Julian, fantastic job on an iconic aircraft with a VERY handsome and striking paint scheme! The DC-3/C-47 is one of my VERY favorite aircraft of all time! Yours is excellent PLUS, it sure looks bigger than it really is.

    Bravo!

  6. Good looking model Julian, very color full, well done.

  7. Great colour scheme and finish

  8. like everyone else said the scheme is magic

Outstanding build and livery Julian, nicely done and clean.

  10. Fantastic build, specialy in this scale. A great scheme too. And as mentioned earlier it could go for a 1/72 scale model at first look.

  11. I'm blessed if I can get a model to look that good in 1:48...
