1/72 Tamiya Spitfire Mk Ia

January 26, 2020 · in Aviation · · 4 · 3.6K

Tamiya Mk Ia. I have had this kit in the stash for quite a while. It was time to build it especially since I did not have a Mk Ia in the collection. This plane was flown by Sqn Ldr Rupert "Lucky" Leigh of No. 66 Sqn from April to October 1940. R6800 was downed by Major Werner Molders over Westerham, Kent on 17 October carrying Canadian Plt Off HW Reilley to his death. Thanks to Dilip Sarkar Mbe for the background information on the pilot.

I added a resin dorsal ID light, canopy rear view mirror and antenna is rigged with Uschi superfine thread. The model is painted with MRP paints and weathered with silver pencil and pastels. The markings are from Xtradecals.
