Vietnam War...Trumpeter 1/48 North American F-100D Super Sabre 481st TFS USAF
Built in 2018.
One of my dad´s excursions to the post WW2 era.
Like all Trumpeter kits, also this one has dimensional and shape issues, but it looks like a Super Sabre.
Super Scale (Squadron) decals, painted with Tamiya XF-16 Aluminium, AGM-12 rockets and BLU-27 napalm canisters from Hasegawa weapon sets, kit seat with Fine Molds WW2 seatbelts, lead wire for the lower brake lines.
Model depicts a 481st TFS 27th TFW aircraft at Tan Sun Nhut AB RVN in 1965.
Beautifully done!
Very nicely done. I loved building this kit last year. Like you said, the kit has some "issues" but it still builds a nice Hun. OBTW, I flew F-111D's as a member of the 481 TFTS "Green Knights" at Cannon AFB, NM in the mid 1970's.
Thanks! Yours looks fine too, very colourful scheme.
Interesting, a small world 🙂
As pilot or WSO?
Beautiful NMF work on this! The Hun is one of my favorite aircraft.
The burn stains on the HUN's tail section are always a challenge. Your father did a great job!
Definitely a great looking model of a great looking jet, very much liked.
Hello Reinhard,
Excellent model. Not forget to mention, photography also very good.
Question: What did you use for base coat for the Tamiya Alu.
Regards, Dirk / The Netherlands.
Thanks!
Well, the paint layers turned out different than expected. Applied normal black paint as base and then painted the model with Model Master Metalizer Aluminium. Afterwards my father used Gunze Mr Metal Primer to seal the metal paint, but the MM paint was "attacked" by the Gunze Primer and made stains. In the end the model was repainted with the ordinary Tamiya Aluminium.
Here´s the WIP
