Fujimi 1/24 McLaren MP4-12C – 2011 Macau Grand Prix
This was one of my first car kits. I used Studio27 Carbon decals which are always a challenge. They are great decals but you have to work them hard for them to conform. I use Solvaset which is pretty strong but it takes a lot and I use a q-tip to help the softened decals conform and it happens very slowly. With these carbon sets, I find its best to have an assembly line approach so the waiting time for one decal is time to work on the other decals. While they seem thick – they settle down very well with patience. Unfortunately they tend to be brittle as well. Big learning curve but great results, in my opinion. They are also very expensive so the prospect of ruining one is a bit stressful. Another thing I like about Studio27 is that they replicate different carbon patterns not just a single weave. Some cars, like Williams F1 cars from the 90s, have different patterns on different parts of the car.
I also use Gravity colors Gulf orange and blue.

Very tidy. I find that Tamiya X-20A thinner for acrylic paint is a much better option for Studio27 decals than Solvaset. You need to get it off surrounding paint quickly but it pulls down into recesses and compound curves really well.

Always good to see some modern motor sport models here, I always find those decals difficult as well.
