Battle of Britain Hurricanes

June 17, 2020 · in Aviation · · 23 · 2.4K

Finally finished the next models for my Model Airplane International series, a pair of 1:48 Hurricanes. A lot of research went into P2923 and a big thanks must got Mark Postlethwaite for the a photo of this aircraft which shows it in almost plan view, revealing a few hidden details. R4118 needs no introduction from me, this aircraft is shown as it might have looked in August 1940, a far cry from its pristine look today! These will be appearing in MAI soon, hope you enjoy the photos!

  1. Nice work, Alan. P2923 sure is an odd one.

  2. This looks really great, Alan.
    Nice paint job you performed.

  3. Beautiful work as usual Allan

  4. That's a nice pair, Alan!
Both are beauties, P2923 is an eyecatcher with its odd scheme.

  5. Another exquisite pair of hurricanes. Eye candy at its best.

  6. Great looking pair of Hurricanes.

  7. Great work with the Airfix kit, well done.

  8. More nice things from Alan.

  9. Very nice Alan.

  10. Intelligent balance between factory finish and sensitive weathering. I always get carried away with the weathering. Lovely!

  11. Nice looking Hurri, Alan, always thought it was the A/C that bore a lot at the BoB but received no glory.

  12. Oh, I just love the contast in P 2923. The sky leading edge really makes it for me. Guess that is why German planes always look a bit more interesting with their underside colour higher up.

  13. Great looking birds.

  14. Wonderful and very impressive! My congratulation for this modeling gem as to your elaborate photographic skills!

  15. Great build. Flawless/awesome finish. All good, Alan.

  16. Both excellent builds!

  17. Alan great work and I have always wanted to build Lewis' 85 Squadron Bob Hurricane. For those who may not know this he was the only RAF pilot to become an ace in a day twice.

  18. I must say a big 'thanks' to everyone for all the great comments, they are much appreciated and I'm glad you all enjoyed these subjects so much!

    • Alan, your BoB Hurricanes are magnificent, as are all your creations. Bravo! A bit late to the party here, but a question on the underside colour for P2923. Is it Sky or Eau de Nil? Many thanks,
      And cheers.

      • Thanks Ernest, both models are sky. Its impossible to know what colour P2923 was, all we can tell was it was quite pale judging by the photos. I'm not one for messing around mixing special colours for things like this so i just used sky.
