1/48 Hasegawa P-39D-1 Air A Cutie
From the limited Edition Air-A Cutie boxing. A fairly easy kit to build for the most part. Much easier to build than the Eduard P-400 but with less detail (I had built an Eduard P-400 Profipack kit over a decade ago), but if I had to choose I would build the Hasegawa again because it is a much simpler build. I added about 10g of steel fishing weights to the nose to keep the nose down.
The paint was a combination of Tamiya Khaki Drab as the base coat and light mists of Tamiya Khaki as the weathering coat. I used Khaki Drab to replace Gunze Olive Drab which is more brown based than green based as per the early war US olive drab. Most of the other colors used were Tamiya colors (white, flat green for the cockpit interior and neutral grey) as well as Xtracrylix Interior Green for the wheel wells and landing gear.
Weathered using thinned oil paints and Tamiya panel line wash.
Decals were from Hasegawa.
The only after market parts used were Ultracast Exhaust stacks and Eduard PE seatbelts.
Really excellent, Dan! I like this a lot!
A fantastic P-39, Dan!
Exceptional weathering, among others!
Nice looking Cobra, Dan.
Scheme is great.
That Cobra looks great! Every time I see a scheme like that with a revealing nose art I wonder why or how they got away with it.
Nice one Dan. Great scheme & nose art!
Thanks everyone for the comments. I enjoyed building it. Definitely recommend the kit if you want a quick, easy build.
Very nice - the paint work and weathering are nice and subtle.
