F6F -5N Hellcat over Brooklyn.1/72 Eduard
This is a Eduards over tree kit, no decals no PE, perfect, I didn't need the kit decals and I don't do PE to well. The markings are of a F6F-5N of the Navy Reserve stationed at NAS Floyd Bennett Field Brooklyn NY. 1949. There is a bit of a connection with the Forgotten War as at least two Reserve F9F Panther squadrons [VF-831 and VF-837] stationed at Floyd Bennett were activated and deployed on the USS Antietam flying missions over Korea . They were permanently activated becoming VF-153 and VF-154. My connection with the base was with the navy reserve unit I was assigned after my active duty, by that time there was no flying being done out of there.
It was a straight forward build, no filling required. for the orange ban I used decals from a minicraft C-121, the rest I botched together from spares. I did the -5N variant so I could load it with the 20mm cannon.
That's one Heck of a Hellcat Robert, and an excellent collection of Grumman aircraft.
Nice job.
That's a fantastic Hellcat indeed, Robert.
I loved the orange decal solution: looks great and one less color to mask/paint!
Very neatly turned out, the orange band really "pops".
Very nice work here, Robert. "Liked"
Looks good Robert, well done.
Very good looking, Robert.
Another "like" from me as well.
Good looking cat Robert, first thought it was 1/48. Nice cat collection too.
Nice job, Robert. Those orange reserve bands look good on gloss sea blue.
Robert, @roofrat
This is a great looking Hellcat... These planes naturally look good in the Navy Reserves markings. This paint scheme is one of my favorites. You did a fine job with her, and it looks like you might have to add another shelf if you keep building these Grumman birds... 🙂
One can never have too many Hellcats. I pressed the "liked" button to. Stay safe buddy, and keep on building.
Very nice build sir
Nice Hellcat!, it looks like a larger scale, nice detail.
Thanks. @waltosoaring
