Dassault Mirage 2000C Gulf War

February 12, 2021 · in Aviation · · 15 · 3.6K

My first aircraft of 2021 and the first modern one since 2013!

Armée de l'Air, Escadron de Chasse 2/5 Île-de-France,
Operation Daguet, Al Asha AB, Saudi Arabia, 1990-1991

I love delta wings planes and the model 2000 is my favorite Mirage. When I decided to do one there were not many kits in 72nd to choose from and they are all quite old. (ModelSvit is releasing a new tool on March 2021) This Italeri one was released in 2016 for the 25th anniversary of the Gulf War but is just a re-box of an old 1992 one and it really shows its age!. Besides the elongated shape (the actual aircraft is a bit shorter) it had many incorrect panel lines and missing detail. The main error was the lines in the radome, that I filled up and sanded. I've added some scratch details as well as the rivets. For the color scheme, I used AK Real Color Lacquers and weathered it with Abteilung 502 Oil paints.

  4. Looks great! nice looking scheme.

  5. Jorge,

I have always had a soft spot for delta wing aircraft and I love the Dassault deltas. You've done an amazing job with this one. Sublime!

  6. 🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
A very presentable Mirage 2000 Jorge, beautiful work in every angle.

  7. That's a beautiful 1/72 M2000, Jorge, an amazing improvement over the old Italeri kit.
I particularly liked the camo rendition. Got to build a desert M2000 one day...
    Well done!

  8. Hi guys, thank you very much for looking and for the lovely comments. I'm happy you liked it! I certainly had fun building!

  9. Very realistic build of this beautiful aircraft, Jorge.
    Absolutely great weathering.

  10. Love is an interesting word in the English language, I love ice cream, etc, but, yes, I like this aircraft very much, great work, definitely liked.

  11. Super job on your Mirage 2000, Jorge. Excellent build, with no sign that there is anything flawed in the kit - it looks exactly like the photo of the real aircraft! I especially like the subtle application of the camo colors you have achieved and the fine weathering. The desert color scheme for the MIrage 2000 is very pleasing to the eye.

    • Thank you so much Colin, I'm glad you liked it. I also like this colour scheme. The weathering was done with oil paint following what I've learned from Michael Rinaldi's TANKART series and his OPR approach. I recommend everyone to take a look at his work. 🙂

  12. A real beauty! I also love the delta Mirages, and the French have great schemes, including this desert one. Nicely done.
