Airfix B-17 G 1/72

March 27, 2021 · in Aviation · · 26 · 2.8K

Hi there,

This is my recent project, a nice kit. Not my usual scale, but this bird in 1/48 just won't fit my space here.

Except Eduard Masks, a must for all these clear parts, everything else OOB.

Fitting is nice in general, except for the clear parts that build into the tail gun structure being too narrow for the fuselage, which causes a step. Also, after glueing the fuselage halves, I ended up with a gap right in front of the windshield. Despite this, the clear part for the "canopy" structure fitted well with the gap. So, instead of forcing the halves to join, I just put some additional plastic between them and the result was fine.

Decals a little bit too thick, but with the help of Mr Setter, went really well.

Hope you enjoy!

  6. Lovely build George. That elusive convincing NMF is well done.

  7. Great build, George.
The various tones in NMF is well done.
Exhaust stains and other weathering as well.

  8. Good looking Fortress George, well done.

  9. A top-notch build, George. And weathered to perfection. Photos from above show-off a high degree of realism. Exceptional.

  10. The Airfix kit manages to play the role of the B-17 very well. George you did an excellent job on the nose. Some folks have trouble getting the rectangle piece that covers the bombardier's station free of seams. Which appears on some Revell builds too. The exhaust staining is well done with the stains traveling around the engine nacelles in a twisting fashion and then spilling out onto the wings.

    Two thumbs up George.

Looking forward to seeing your next build.

  11. Great NMF and weathering.

  13. A real beauty - I think you got the weathering just right! Well done.
