1/72 Airfix Supermarine Spitfire Mk. 1a
1/72 Airfix Supermarine Spitfire Mk. 1a. (2010)
Built entirely out of the box.
Tamiya tape Sutton harness.
Paints were a combination of Mr. Color, Mr. Hobby, Tamiya and Alclad II.
UVDR aerial wire.
This is a really great kit without issues. Even if 1/72 isn't "your scale" you should build this. All the fun.
This is a wonderful Spitfire, James! You did an excellent job! It is simply great to see the 1/72 scale better and better served by kit manufacturers nowadays.
Thank you Spiro.
Looks fantastic! I wish at last I will find Spitfire Vc Airfix kit somewhere. Any problems with fitting fuselage an wings? Any putty?
Thank you. No putty needed. In fact, the wing roots just clicked into place. The canopy fits so snugly I didn’t cement it.
Just absolutely beautiful! I love the subtle/matte colors.
Thanks Felix, I’m pleased with the results. Fun fact: I started this Saturday morning and finished Sunday afternoon. Best weekend ever.
These new Airfix kits are lots of fun!
Excellent build! I'm going to have to build one of Airfix's newer 1/72 Spits - they look really great.
What shade of black paint did you use to right wing?
Mr.Hobby flat black.
Left wing was painted in Sky Blue or Sky type S (Duck Egg blue)?
Very fine work James!
Beautiful Spitfire, James @jkelleycrna
Your work on the camouflage and weathering is superb.
Well done.
I love these 1/72nd scale Spitfires. Early Spitfires had many variations of a theme when it comes to camouflage. Great to see something with a black, white and silver finish. You don't see many early Spits in 1/48 although, Eduard is making a dent in that category.
For now Airfix has filled a void and has introduced early Spitfire camouflaged history back into the mainstream of modeling. Neat little build James.
Two thumbs up.
Very nice work!
Well done!
Nice work, James. You are right about the newer Airfix 1/72 Spitfires being very nice. You got the most out of it.
Well done James at first glance I thought it was 1/48.
Nice! I did Airfix's Mk 22 awhile back, It was a gem of a kit to build.
