ICM 1/72 Polikarpov U-2/PO-2VS

October 28, 2021 · in Aviation · · 20 · 1.8K

A little kit with lots of tiny parts.
I seem to have a problem with plastic as I had to replace a few parts with brass tube and sprue.
I find it very soft. Probably operator error though.

Primed with Neutral Grey.
Painted with MRP AMT-1, Colourcoats AMT-4, AMT-7,AMT-12, Tamiya Nato Black, Rubber Black, Dark Grey, Gun Metal, Dark Iron and Light Grey.
Washes sparingly used Citadel Nuln Oil and Seraphim Sepia.
Finished with Windsor & Newton Matt Varnish.
The propeller came from Quickboost and the wheels from ResKit.

I've still to fit the anti-vibration bars to the rigging but it's done as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,
Alistair

  1. Very nice looking small plane! Is it the new or old tool? I am not sure why, but ICM released a completely new Po-2 in 1:72 scale a few years after their first kit of the type.

  2. Very well built little jewel. Lots of good reading too.

  3. A little jewel, Alistair, what a great scheme!
Yes, the ICM plastic has a reputation of being soft...

  4. Great little aircraft, Alistair @alistairfgauld
Amazing what you did at this scale, especially the rigging.

  5. Fine work, Alistar!
Your Poli-k has more wiring than a piano, excellent rigging work as well as an excellent build.

  6. Another winner, Alistair! Great work on a great subject.

  7. Very nice work on your build, the rigging and scheme looks great.

  8. Biplanes are evil, Allistair (@alistairfgauld), but this one is awesome, even if it does have one too many wings. Rigging must have been fun on something this size.

    • Thanks so much,
I sat for about three days staring at other builds, photos and the instructions trying to get the nerve up and figure out how to do it.
I kept the top wing off and all in all it took about 90 minutes to get it done.
In saying that I got very lucky and it all worked. I've spent that long trying to rig the aerial on a Spitfire before.

      Cheers,
      Alistair

  9. Fantastic! Thought about getting this kit but shied away so far - you are tempting me!
