Tamiya Mercedes C9 Build Blog
I have just started modelling again after a 35 year break. Now 50, I haven't had the smell of acrylic glue up my nose since I was 15.
For my first kit back I've chosen my favourite race car ever, the Mercedes C9 Le Mans silver arrow, in my opinion the best sounding race car of all time.
I've been studying this kit for a while and have always seen people leave a massive gap between the brake ducts and the front clip, a flaw in the kit in my opinion so I've joined them to the body instead of the floor as shown in the instructions. I had to add a bit of plastic to the bottom of each vent so that the bottom of the clip was level and will meet flush with the floorpan. I've also done the obligatory gap fill of the "bonnet".
I've also removed some of the moulds that I will replace with Studio 27 detail up kit parts such as the roof vents and door hinges.
This buildwill be a bit of a slow burn unlike my teenage years where I was so impatient and glued parts together while the paint was still wet. I'm really looking forward to getting any feedback and tips from you all.

It's great to see your initial article and it looks to be a fascinating project to me. I've always loved the prototype class racers and this one was a beast! It sounds as though you know what you're doing and have some interesting plans for this model racer. I'm looking forward to more progress on this one Mario, and future articles to come! ?

Welcome to iModeler, Mario, it’s great to have another petrolhead posting here, the Tamiya Mercedes is a nice kit of a very cool car, and your planned additions should result in an excellent model. Keep up the good work.
Thanks George! Apparently there are not a lot of car builders out there in comparison to other kits. I went to my local hobby store to stock up on tools and paints for this build and found only about half an aisle of car kits and 4 aisles of military and planes! Seems the car builders are the minority.
