24 - 1/650 AMT Klingon Bird of Prey

November 5, 2022 · in Sci-fi · · 19 · 1K

Been a while, need to update a few builds, first off the .

Really enjoyed this build, big and chunky parts, with nice deep recesses for detail. The kit has a lot of detail on it that makes it stand out and the colours separate nicely. I used a ton of masking tape but in the end I was happy with the different colour panels.

A really enjoyable kit - thanks for looking.

  1. It’s certainly colorful, Anthony, I can see how you used so much masking tape. How do they work out the scale on these sci-fi models, if it’s 1/650, the “real” thing must be huge?

    • Crew of 800 George. I think it's big.

    • Hi George, thanks - yeah they are extremely huge starships, I think in the movies and TV shows they need to work to a scale of these different ships so that there is consistency, so they give scales to them so it makes sense in filming and post production, so they get the scale from that.

  2. That looks wonderful Anthony! I'm by no means a "Trekkie", but I built one of these as a kid (in-fact still have it, it survived the recent old built kit purge!) and enjoyed it very much. It looks great with the wings down and all the color variation adds to the look. I like the way you've weathered it up some too... Thanks for sharing!

Also, I see now too where the stand I used on my 1/72 SR-71 came from, clearly this kit!

    • Hahaha, nice, I'm glad you could use the stand.
Yeah I'm not a trekkie either, I really prefer Star Wars, but this is such a beautiful ship, couldn't pass up the opportunity to build it.
      Thanks for the kind comments.

  3. Beautiful result, Anthony @anthonyricco
    Paintwork is superb.
With 1/650 this one must be huge in "real" indeed.

  4. Fantastic build, Anthony!

  5. Nice, great job on how you painted and produced the final finished look on your build.

  6. Nice work on bringing this back to life, Anthony. Great result.

  7. Looks great, Anthony (@anthonyricco). Well done on the paint. Anything Star Trek or Star Wars, and I am in.

  8. I thought those were Romulan. The one from wrath of Khan. Am I confused? Beautifully done model anyway.

    • Hi Bill the Romulans had a different Bird of Prey, this one is the Klingon one. The Romulan one is in the pic I attached.

  9. I thought that to, Bill. Nicely done Anthony!
