Cold War...1/48 English Electric Lightning F.2A, No.92 Sqn RAF
10/2023
After the Airfix Walrus, now an Airfix Classic.
My dad wanted to do a silver bird, so he decided to build the Airfix Lightning which I bought him as a present for last Christmas.
Didn´t turn out perfect and has its glitches but all in all it looks ok.
It´s the 2012 kit edition with Cartograf decals. Built oob, only added a MB Mk 10 seat from PJ Production. Painted with AK Xtreme Metal Aluminium, spine and vertical stabilizer with Tamiya XF-4 Flat Blue, exhaust covers with AK Xtreme Metal Dark Aluminium and the nose and tail ring with Gunze Mr. Color Chrome. Also initially did some of the small panels with a larger amount of flat to make the surface more "lively". But after oil washing and several gloss and flat clear coats you don´t see much difference between the different metal colors.

Model shows the aircraft of Wing Commander J.B. Mitchell, Commanding Officer No.92 Squadron, Royal Air Force Germany, Gutersloh, August 1972.
King Cobra! Nice work. That’s one of my favorites.
That’s a very beautiful Lightning. Lovely bare metal finish!
Lightnings are one of my favourite planes, nothing else looks so good from that era. Apparently the engines are available to buy, I remember seeing a Lightning engined dragster at Santa Pod drag strip, it was noisy!
Great Paiting!
Another Spreitzhofer masterpiece!
Beautifully polished results on one of my favorites. I will do one of these one day. I love the particular markings and it is nice to see it with canopy closed to emphasize the brutish beauty of the design and livery. Excellent work, as always.
Very nice work on this Airfix classic of a True Classic of aviation. Great result!
One of my favorite planes, Reinhard (@grimreaper). Great work on an elderly kit. NMF is particularly well done.
Very nice looking Lightning, Reinhard @grimreaper
The NMF turned out realy great, especially in combination with the blue on the tail and back.
Well done.
Love it! Beautiful work. Those NMF Lightnings with colored spines and tails are probably the most attractive cold-war warriors around! And the Lightning is just such an icon anyway. A great project!
