D-25 Jorge Juan – Destroyer Spanish Navy
It is about the conversion of the Uss Sullivans to the Jorge Juan of the Spanish Navy, ex-McGowan DD-678, belonging to the Fletcher class and which was transferred by the US on December 1, 1960. The Trumpeter kit is quite It can be improved both to make this version or the model it represents and which comes to make two versions, the 43 or 45 version and requires many improvements.
In the specific case of the Jorge Juan, an extensive scracht work has been required for which I have followed other models of modelers and reviewing the ship's documentation. The work carried out has consisted of the total sanding of the deck, replacement of fairleads, bitts, chains, chimneys, bridge and stern structures, complementing with plasticard, copper wire, photo-etched parts, main guns rebuilt and replaced by tubes, ammunition boxes , anti-submarine hedgehogs, torpedoes, fully rebuilt 3-inch guns, main mast, firing direction, life rafts, midships gutters, propeller guards, flag boxes, winches. It has been completed with voyager railings, flyhawk ladders. They have been used as Vallejo paint, using 70990 as the main color of superstructures, 70868 for the deck and a mixture of 70947 70818 for the hull. Light effects have been given with oil and pastel, not dirtying it by seeing various photographs of the real model that was not particularly worn.
The full hull option was chosen to adequately represent it in navigation using a 3 cm wavy Porex base and using various types of gloss (relief varnishes) together with cotton according to the method I usually use.
The decals are left over from other kits and the flags have been printed and lightly varnished.
This is outstanding, Manuel!
Great result.
I’m always amazed by how much extra detail goes into these models, and the base sets it off perfectly, great sea effect.
Fantastic result, Manuel @kometa
Especially the water effect is very realistic. The pictures taken from the side do make it look like a real ship.
Really nice work on that dogmeat kit. A victory of talent and persistence over plastic.
Hase gray and underway! Excellent build and sea scape.
Beautiful build and base! Amazing detail for a 1:350 kit. You have done a wonderful job!
This is just fantastic!
Thanks guys
You are very kind. I'm glad you liked this build.

Manuel this is an amazing conversion! I also tried to convert the Trumpeter kit and I know how much work it requires. Always nice to see your models my friend.
Thanks for your kind words. I had your model to guide the conversion of the Trumpeter kit and I also realized what a difficult job you've had. There are some bugs or things that I see in more detail now, but overall I like it the way it is. The Smith Frankrijk that I did was also guided by yours, although it is not as complex.
I also follow your work on modelwarships.
