1/48 AMK Fouga CM.170 Magister
This is my fisrt model of AvantGarde Model Kits, or AMK. I must admit that this is, maybe, one of the greatest models I’ve ever done in the terms of simplicity of assembly and fitting which was superb. The model is full of details, modeller can chose between clear fuselage or common one, also, You can make choices during the build; will you use plastic or white metal parts.
From the box, sprues, PE, white metal parts, decals… everything is superb. Just like a dream. Build was very straight forward, I’ve assembled model without using single drop of putty, also, fit is second to none. Great enginering. I did some minor modifications. Cockpit was a little bit shallow so I’ve added wirings and some more details. Also, I decided to left many hatches opet just for viewer to see all the beaty which is inside the fuselage, engines, reservoirs…
I started doing this model on the day my wife left for maternity hospital to give birth to our first child. She saw instructions and asked me if I could do this model in colors of Patrouille France. I decided to fulfill her wish, althought I wanted to do different markings.
I always think that is better to paint everyhing than to do decaling. In opinion it is more realistic after painting than after decaling. I spend some time masking, but I was satisfied with France flag on the wings and white lines on the fuselage.
Only thing I did by my own was ading machine guns into the nose cone, simply because I wanted to show the nose cone open, and because I liked the idea of machine guns on the model. I know that they are removed from Fougas in this markings, but it was ok for me to show how will guns look on the nose.
I did very little weathering because I saw on reference photos that these Fougas were maintened perfectly.
So, this was very fun to build. AMK proved to be excellent model maker. This is a little bit demanding model because of many subassemblies and so many details, but I was feeling great during the build and painting process. Cheers and feel free to comment!
This is a great looking model. And, even these days, it is difficult to find such “clean bill of health” for a model kit, so congratulations to both you and AMK!
Thank You 🙂
I'm trying to fing F14 by AMK, but it is very rare. Fouga was a gem in all aspects. Everything went together superbly.
Great build & finish. Cool & colorful.
Thank You 🙂
Thanks for the inspiration @sheol. I have one of these in the stash. Your excellent result will lead to me pulling it out I think.
