ProModeler Monogram F4E Phantom II
ProModeler's F-4E is a re-boxing of Hasegawa's Phantom. It is an early F-4E model without the slats. Although painted in the SEA scheme it appears that the aircraft never left the US although it has a MIG kill marking. My guess is that the aircraft was a late E model with slats that also served in Vietnam.
Assuming service in US soil, I minimized the weathering of the model to depict pristine conditions storage. Yet, after photographing the model it appeared too flat. I then, added weathering with filter oils (photographs without the ladder) thus, placing it back to Vietnam.
That is an excellent build. Love the SEA paint job. BTW, what tan did you use?
Thank you Dan
I mix my paints. Different color hues on the model for the same camouflage tone. The base was probably Tamiya enamel khaki.
Excellent result, Rafi! Camo and weathering is perfect!
Thank you Spiros!
Superbly done, Rafi @blackmopane
The weathering came out really nice.
Thank you John.
Phantoms usually look good and this one is no exception.
Thank you George
cool painting always wanted to do a Phantom but that burnt metal always had me stumped how to do it
Thank you Martin
The Phantom does not have a complicated burnt metal traces like for example, recent MIGs. There are many dedicated aftermarket paints for this. I hope that you will manage.
WOW, that is a couple of superb paint jobs Rafi, very inspiring
Thank you Ian
How was the build? Did you need much filling and sanding? Yours looks really sharp.
Thank you Dan
It is the Hasegawa kit with the recessed panel lines. Cockpit is basic and intakes are not complete. The main areas that you should pay attention to are the joint fuselage halves. Fuel tanks filling caps will vanish with the sanding of the seam area. The most problematic area is the lower front joint of fuselage and wings. You would probably want to modify the area to secure a flush joint. Engine nozzles are basic and you may want an aftermarket alternative. Enjoy
Splendid work. Looks great, just enough weathering
Thank you Matt.
Excellent piece of work!
I just love the Phantom, such an impressive jet.
Still on my list to build one. Will most likely be one of the 32nd TFS “Wolfhounds”, which operated from Soesterberg AFB Netherlands.
Thank you Alfred!
I hope the you will share here the results of your work
Phabulous Phantom{s}! Great job. The Mig kill may belong to the pilot assigned to the aircraft.
Thank you Robert.
Yes, I think that ProModeler introduced the wrong mold.
A beautiful Rhino! Looks great!
Thank you Greg!
