Airfix Gloster Meteor F.8 1/72
Just finished this newly tooled Airfix Gloster Meteor. Great detail, just the right amount of parts really to get to the pain job within a reasonable amount of time (i am not a patient person). The build is straightforward. Unfortunately the fit of the undercarriage, especially of the wheels was very disappointing (although the idea behind the construction is very clever and helps with painting the wheels and the carriage separately). Too much sanding and filling because of that, I expect more of a modern tooling, to be honest.
Painted with Ammo Mig and AK Interactive acrylics.
Of course it is also a tailsitter since i forgot to put in any weight.
Nice work, Felix. It looks just as well detailed as the 1/48 kit.
Dear John @j-healy, thank you very much. The kit is very detailed indeed, Airfix has really stepped up their game. Well, apart from some issues with the wheels.
Excellent hob, Felix!
Thank you Spiros, @fiveten, i do look forward to seeing your next build soon hopefully!
Excellent work on this Meteor, Felix @fxrob
It definitely looks much bigger than a 1/72
Dear John @johnb, thanks a lot! To be fair, i think the impression of it being really large is also due to the camera being very close to the plane. But yeah, it's a big plane, even bigger than the Hawker Tempest from that period.
Very nice!
Greg @gkittinger, thanks a lot!
Great panel lines, decals and paintwork, Felix @fxrob! Your Meteor looks awesome! I've used a small piece of double-sided tape under the front tire to keep the nose down.
Hi Joe @jroamer, thank you for your compliments and the great piece of advice - i am going to do that next time i rush thinks again 🙂
Your model looks like a 1/48 scale kit. Regardless of the landing gear the over all result is impressive Felix.
Dear Stephen @stephen-w-towle, thanks a lot for you nice feedback!
Great looking Meteor, Felix.
Thanks a lot George @chinesegeorge, of course it helps that the Meteor is simply a beautiful looking plane 🙂
Nicely done Felix!
Thanks Robert @roofrat!
Your Meteor looks great! I’m nearly finished with mine, and I agree, the landing gear was a bit of a disappointment. I liked the idea but the fit was not very good, which was surprising because in every other way this was one of the very best fitting new Airfix kits I’ve done.
Dear Scott @guitarhack5, i do look forward to seeing your build! Which version are you doing? As much as i love nmf planes of the 50ies, i dread painting it. I agree, other than the wheels (and maybe the little piece inside the large canopy) this kit is great.
Felix, I’m doing the 500 Squadron (the one on the box-top) version. Those Meteors were painted in ‘High Speed Silver’ so I used Tamiya Silver out of a rattle can (over a gloss black primer coat). Makes the faux NMF a little easier. I expect to finish it up this weekend and post it here at imodeler.
