Dassault Mirage 2000 eggplane, AFV club

July 13, 2023 · in Aviation · · 23 · 415

Although I knew about the existance of those egg shaped models, I never took the opportunity to work on one.
This changed when I received this Dassault from as a Father's day gift from my daughter.
It was an enjoyable kit and everything went together quite well, no filler was required to get a smooth result.
Not much to tell about the building process, as said the few parts did fit nicely. For the painting I used grey shades which to my eyes did match the proposed colors closely. After that I only applied a little wash for weathering.
Only difficult part were the decals which were quite thin and not very cooperative while trying to move them in position.
Not my best result in general but my best result on an egg model.
In general a great kit which was a pleasure to work on, resulting in a cartoonish, yet still recognizable Mirage 2000.
What more to wish for Father's day.

Thanks to all for following the building thread.

  1. Way to go, Dad...I'll bet your daughter loves it! Well done, John

  2. Egg planes are cute and addictive. That's a very attractive model you've created.

  3. Well done, John! An excellent result and a great build thread!

  4. Hey, John, the only fault I can find is that it isn’t made of chocolate………..
It looks great, cleverly designed to still make it recognisable as the prototype.

  5. Super cute! I have only one; the Space Shuttle with the astronaut EVA outside. Great job! Name your models after your daughter and she may buy you more!

  6. Very Nice! These kits are so much fun to build. I built two for my grandsons (F-22 and F-86). Like you said, they go together well and there is no pressure to make an "IPMS winning" model.

  7. This is a very cool build, John @johnb! Regardless of the toyish look, the paintjob is really delicate!

  8. This is really nice @johnb. I'm sure your daughter is as happy as can be that you built her gift as you did.

  9. Awwww, that’s sooo cute, John @johnb. I bet your daughter was thrilled when she saw this. You get the Model Dad Award.

  10. Nice! I always liked these critters..

  11. @johnb I love egg planes! They are great to break modelers block :). Great job on that…a true prize! : )

  12. @johnb I’ve done 4 or 5 of them 🙂
