Arma Hobby 1/48 Hurricane IIC
This is one I built for IPMS USA for review which should be appearing very soon online. The kit was a pretty nice build and rewards the builder who has patience with an accurate & well detailed 1/48 Hurricane. Arguably the best in scale! There are few pitfalls the builder should be aware of: Sprue gates are on the mating surfaces & this will require VERY careful cutting to get a decent fit without gaps. Especially on compound surfaces such as the wings and fuselages where a gap would be readily visible. I know this is a trend of the current modeling companies BUT I think a combination of sprue gate attachment points would be ideal...does NOT interfere with fit -which is paramount. Also the instructions do NOT indicate what canopy masks belong to either the open of closed canopy. Please read my Full Review on IPMS USA.
Otherwise a nice build of a famous subject. I did the Coltishall 1941 bird of Squadron Leader Robert Stanford Tuck!
IT is good to see the love for the Hurricane in 1/72 & 1/48 from Arma & even Revell with its 1/32 Hurricane!
Steve,
That is some impressive detail for being OOTB! Beautiful result, Steve.
Steve - you have one small problem (fortunately easily resolved) and that is the propeller blades are wooden, "Jablo" was the term for them (ditto the Spitfires from V to IX). They cannot be "dinged." 2 minutes with a brush and bottle of paint will solve the problem. This is a common mistake; we've all done it.
Other than that it's a very nice result from this great kit.
Excellent job, Steven!
Thanks Tom I am in the middle of another project both models and 1/1 Car ...So IT will be a while before I correct hat.
But this is a 'special ' Tuck bird with METAL blades. Artistic impression
Steve,
Looks good! I recently built the Arma Hobby 1/72 Hurricane - they make GREAT models!
@sjcorvi - Very nice build Steven. The detail and paint work is fantastic.
The chipping effects look just right. Beautifully done.
Really nice work, Steven @sjcorvi
I much prefer Hurricanes to Spitfires and this looks like a great one.
Looks great, Steven (@sjcorvi). Interior is especially well-done. When I first got a kit that had the sprues attached to the mating faces, I thought it was a great idea. Once I started building the kit, I quickly found out that it was easy to take off too much of the area when cleaning up the attachment, leaving a divot that will need to be fixed later.
I agree 100% about the mating surface and sprue gates! Many modelers love it and think it is great
Thank everyone fro such nice comments!
Steve,
