Chevy Dump Truck
Today's post by my friend Paul's build of a 1955 Ford pickup inspired me to post a similar build. A good flying, hiking, and skydiving buddy of mine asked me to build a model of his Cessna 172 about 5 years ago. I did so, and a little while later he asked me to build a model of a 1950 chevy truck that he had restored in the distant past. He brought me a 1:24 AMC kit for a model 3100 Chevy pickup. The problem with that was he wanted me to build a Model 6400 dump truck. He had lots of detailed photos of his truck. The only similarity between the kit and his truck was the cab. So, I set about scratch building a new frame, box, mechanism for raising the bed, hydraulic lift, tailgate, reflectors, mirrors, etc. Then trying to match the metallic green paint on the cab. I ended up buying a second AMC pickup kit just to get the wheels and tires for the duals in back. After about a month of scratch building stuff, I finally got to something that resembled what he wanted. He was happy with the build and I was happy to be done with it. Something way different for an assembler of aircraft model kits!
A very good likeness to the actual truck.
Full of character, Chas, and a very good likeness.
Looks great! Wild paint job.
A very fine build, Chas @chasbunch
Great work on the painting, looks definitely like the real one.
An excellent build, Chas!
