A Little Cappuccino

September 25, 2023 · in Automotive · · 15 · 263

My first completed non-military car model in more than 25 years! I present the Suzuki . I picked this up at a local Japanese market that has begun carrying models (almost all Aoshima car and motorcycle kits) and Mr. Color paint. I used Ford Liquid Blue and gloss coat for the body finish and Tamiya semigloss black and flat black for the interior. It was my first time using Gravity Colors and I really enjoyed them. In fact I ordered some more colors for the two other car models I bought!

The Suzuki Cappuccino is a compact sports car that epitomizes the concept of the "kei car" or K car in Japan. The kei car segment represents a unique category of vehicles in Japan known for their diminutive size, economical performance, and exceptional fuel efficiency. Most k cars are very boxy in design. However, the Suzuki Cappuccino, introduced in 1991, is an example of a sports car in this category and has garnered a cult following worldwide.

Kei cars, or K cars, emerged in Japan as a response to the need for small, fuel-efficient vehicles suitable for urban commuting. The Japanese government introduced kei car regulations in the 1950s to promote affordable and practical transportation. These regulations stipulated specific dimensions, engine sizes, and power outputs to keep the cars compact and efficient.

The Suzuki Cappuccino, named after the Italian coffee beverage, features a lightweight and compact design, measuring just 3.29 meters in length and 1.39 meters in width. This diminutive stature makes it an ideal city car, easy to maneuver through congested streets and park in tight spots.

  4. That is so cool. I really like it...a lot.

  5. Very nice job on the finish - looks like she's just been waxed.

  6. Beautiful work on this little car, even in 1/24 scale this must be a small cup of coffee. Aoshima do a great range of cars and motorcycles that often get overlooked.

  7. Great work Scott. It looks impeccable. I'll bet the real one is fun to drive.

  8. Thanks Dennis! I would only fit in a real one if the top is off, lol.
