National Museum of WW II Aviation

September 25, 2023 · in Photo Collections · · 13 · 545

Visiting my son at Fort Carson for a few days and got a chance to visit the WW II aviation museum. What a great museum. Saw the ongoing restorations as well. If you're ever in Colorado Springs, make sure to check it out.
Photos from the museum and also a few of the tanks at the entrance to Ft Carson.

Also, the planes are fully functional. I believe they are planning an air show here for sometime next year.

  8. Some great photos of some great planes, Russ (@rfking). Did you get a chance to get up to Denver to see the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum? Thanks for sharing your photos.

    • Hi George,
No. Didn't get up to Denver. Will have to check that out someday. I see you were a 141 pilot. I spent 4 years as a Flt. Surgeon at Travis attached to 22nd C-5 squadron, early to mid 90s. Had some good friends in the 141 squadrons.

  9. Hi Russ,

I was in the 21st at Travis from '97 to '00. Now I'm a docent at the National Museum of WWII Aviation and an avid model builder. You are correct about the airshow being next year. It is on the calendar for August. The Blue Angels will be performing, along with an F-22 demo and several other airshow acts, and of course, several of our aircraft. We are hoping to have the Helldiver completed and flying in the airshow as well. Incidentally, the P-38 in your photos is White 33. It's the aircraft Tamiya studied to create their P-38F/G kit. Hope you can make it back for the airshow. Thanks.

    • Don, thanks for the message. I'm back east now but would love to come back for the airshow. After Flt Surgeon stint with the 22nd, I stayed at Travis for residency from 1996 to June 2000. Then 4 yrs in VA at Langley AFB.
