Airfix Supermarine Swift 1/72
Another one done i have wanted to for a very long time. The Swift may not have been super successful but it looks great. This is what a jet from the 50ies is supposed to look like. Plus, that blue belly just got my attention.
Many inspiring examples of this kit can be found here or on scalemates e.g. Fit was great, only there was no way i was going to be able to put in weight in that tiny nose.
Frankly, i do find it courageous of Airfix to have come out with this kit, considering there are not / will not be too many different variants given its short time in service and the very limited number of squadrons it actually served in.
Painted with acrylics and a number of ammo mig filters plus some panel line wash. They should do this plane in 48th scale!
Happy modelling!
Excellent result, Felix @fxrob
A not so well known aircraft but it does indeed have very nice shapes.
Nice work on the camouflage, looks perfect.
Dear John @johnb, thank you so much for your compliments! I really had a lot of fun with the camouflage, i experimented a lot with ammo mig filters.
Looks excellent, Felix!
Indeed, the Swift is such a gorgeous looking plane!
Yasou Spiros @fiveten, thanks a lot for your kinds remark! It's a beautiful bird, isn't it!
It is a very nice kit - you obviously got the most out of what's in the box.
It would be even nicer in 1/48. 🙂
Dear Tom @tcinla, thank you very much for your compliments. Your build of the Swift is one of the kits that inspired me, in fact. Looks like we have been waiting on a 1/48th version for quite some time, if you look at the comments back then 🙂
Does kinda look like a boid, don't it? A little bit like Rodan too.
Anyway, great job on the model, the color variations are eye catching.
Dear Bill @billkoppos, thank you very much for your compliments and your feedback. I used Ammo Mig Filters on top of my acrylics, that really made for some nice variations.
Great looking build, Felix!
Hey John @jdtruby, thank you very much for your kind feedback!
Yeah - if you asked my to name 5 nice looking RAF jets, the Swift would not be there - but nice for Airfix to have this kit..
Great looking build, Felix. I really like the camo work you did.
Dear George @georgeswork, thank you very much for your kind feedback! The Swift really did have a tough time not just in terms of performance, since the Hunter also just looks awesome...
Nice job, Felix. I agree, the Swift has awesome looks.
Thanks a lot, John!
I had a Dinky Toy Swift when I was a kid and always liked the lines of it. Your work on this Airfix kit brought many happy memories.
A dinky toy Swift! @chinesegeorge Thanks for your feedback, the Swift is underrated!
Looks beautiful, nice work! I'm starting to get into the early jets. This might be one to check out.
Hi Clint @curtisshawk, thank you very much! It took me awhile to get away from WWII props too, but now i love early RAF jets. I love the Airfix Vampire in 1/72nd scale.
Very nice!
Thank you, Greg @gkittinger!
