Heller 4.5lt blower Bentley 1/24

January 23, 2024 · in Automotive · · 16 · 155

The most successful of British race cars of the 1920's would be the Bentleys, however the 1929 4.5lt blower Bentley did not live up to expectations on the race track and only 50 cars were built. The cars weighted around 2 tonne and the 240 H.P. was needed to be competitive. Ettore Bugatti only ever complimented 1 other car manufacturer quote " Mr Bentley builds fast trucks " and he was right , unfortunately the 4.5 blower was not reliable on the track as previous models and so it became just another expensive British sports car, but a bloody fast one!

I found the kit quite good except that the chassis was warped, so hot water and gentle persuasion was needed to fix it, although not 100%. Otherwise an enjoyable build of a classic car.

  1. Great looking Bentley, Ian, good save with the chassis, and a beautiful BRG finish.

  2. Good work on this and an excellent save, resulting in a great model.

    Inspiration to drag out mine.

  3. This bentley looks really good, Ian @firelockg
Glad you solved the warpage issue.

  4. This is great Ian , is it the old Airfix moulding ?

    • I think the Airfix was a different scale, the Revel version is supposed to be the same moulding as the Heller, has additional decals for the instrument panel. Had to paint the Heller instruments.

  5. Excellent job, Ian!

  6. I always did like this car. A lovely build. @firelockg

  7. Thanks John, there is allot to like even though they did not perform on the race track.
