Airfix 1/72 RNLI Severn Class Lifeboat

February 26, 2024 · in Ships · · 4 · 361

Finally calling this complete - built on the 8th February 2024. Started it in 2022 and it sat on my shelf of shame for approx 1 year.
My .
This has been one of the worst models I have ever built. It fights you from the first step.
Also it is a battle to fit the cabin on if you have built the interior. Loads of filing and trimming needs to be done.
There is only one capstan supplied with the kit and there a two on the actual boat.
Additional antenna have been added as saw these on my reference photos.
The lower hull was painted black rather than the red normally seen or as the kit instructions shoe. I did this after I saw some photos showing some these boats were painted black below the water line. Also confirmed by the RNLI Engineering services department.

Paints used are all Halfords rattle cans - matt black, Ford Blazer Blue, white primer, grey primer, VW Brilliant Orange.
Vallejo Model Color used - Gloss White, the rear rails will be a sky grey, chrome.

  1. So glad you finished this, Phillip, it looks very ship shape.

  2. Nice one Phil. They are bringing out a Shannon class this year so hopefully that will be better.

I have a Severn class to do but want a quick look at our local boats first over in Yarmouth.

  3. Your perseverance resulted in a great lifeboat, Phillip @phillipe50

  4. Congratulations on a most challenging kit, Phillip! Looks great!
