Beautiful build, Alistair, and quite a successful rescue! I've long had the old Hawk kit sitting on the shelf and have collected this and that over the years to improve its rather spartan detailing, so maybe one day I'll get to it and hope my build will look half the winner you've achieved. The Flory wash looks very good, indeed - was it easy enough to use? Congratulations on completing your excellent Lysander!
Thanks very much.
The Flory wash is simplicity itself to use.
It's clay based so you just paint or spray it on and once dry wipe off with a bit of kitchen roll.
If you want to take more off then dampen the roll.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Alistair
Totally different. I like it
Thanks so much.
G’day Alistair (@alistairfgauld),
This is one of thouse ulitarian aircraft with looks that only its mother could love.
You have turned it into a beauty, though.
Well done.
Liked!
Thanks very much.
Rally nice! I have endured the pain of trying to turn this kit into a model, so I know what an achievement this is. Superb result.
Thanks very much Tom.
It is a bit of a bear of a kit.
Excellent result on this challenging kit, Alistair!
Congratulations!
Thanks Spiros,
As always you are too kind.
Just amazing artwork, Alistair. Love the scheme and how you achieved that worn look!
Thanks very much.
To be honest the weathering looks a bit heavier than I was looking for in the pictures but in daylight it looks nicely grubby.
Very smooth looking Lysander, Alistair @alistairfgauld
Great save on the port wing.
Thanks very much.
Most kind.
Nice one of an iconic and much misunderstood and underrated aircraft (in its right environment).
Ironically I had just been laying in bed nosing through the Gavia SD version of the Lizzie. Apparently the struts are some 4mm outboard so they are easy to correct.
I wasn't aware the Navy flew them so that's a new one.
Not sure if you ate aware bit the Lysander had a highly innovative automatic slat and flap system whereby the inboard slat and flap worked together at certain combinations of AOA and speed. Generally they droop on the ground, however ot wasn't uncommon for them to be pushed back in manually. I believe they could also be locked on some marques but I am not sure on that one. You might find this interesting.
A great job of a stunning and quite innovative little (ok big) machine.
Thanks so much.
I did get the CMK upgrade set for this and was intending to do the slats but after finding two port horizontal stabilsers in the set and after checking the flaps found them to be about 1/4 of an inch short didn't trust the slats or the rest of the set so went OOB.
Great build Alistair ☺️ Sadly I gave my Gavia kit to a friend. Regretting that now after seeing your cool looking model.
Thanks very much.
It is not the easiest of builds but I had a blast hammering it into something vaguely Lizzie shaped.
Great looking model, and the navy camouflage makes it rather unusual too.
Never tried the Gavia kit but from the feedback here I can se you had some fighting besides that wing. Thanks for sharing!
Many Thanks
Very sharp, Alistair.
Great looking Lysander.
Thank you so much
Nice work, Alistair. I’ve heard that was a difficult kit.
Thanks very much.
It does require a little extra care.
An extraordinary build of an interesting plane.
Thanks for sharing this.
Many thanks
It looks very nice in this colour scheme, Alistair, good work on what is obviously a difficult kit. I remember watching a very old BBC TV series which featured a Lysander.
Thanks very much.
I had forgotten about "Moonstrike"
Went looking but there are only 3 episodes remaining the rest have been wiped.
Alistair, I like that comment about hammering the kit into shape. Sometimes one becomes a Black-Smith in performing ones duties. The kids used to use the word Frenemies and I've done kits that you love to hate and in end the you love the fruits of your labors. As others have stated the paint scheme is different and informative and pleasing to the eye. Some folks think of this a/c as being ugly but, in the sky (watched the video)it looks like a Swan to me. Form follows function your kit is a real beauty.
Two thumbs up.
Thanks so much.
great weathering!
Thanks so much.
I still think it's a little heavy but under normal daylight it looks OK.
Excellent work, Alistar. I also beat this kit into submission a few years ago and now it sort of looks like a Lysander. Love the paint!
Thanks so much.
It does look vaguely Lysander shaped but 99.9% of the folks wh'll see it in the flesh wouldn't know any different.
So, it's all good.
A beauty Alistair! I love the Lysander - such a purpose-built aircraft.
Many Thanks Greg
