Heinkel He-46C-1.
Here’s my Heinkel He-46C-1. a resin kit from Planet Models in Condor Legion livery. Built mostly OOB, I just added some seat belts and stainless bracing wire on the struts. Model Master paint and kit decals. An easy build.
In 1931 the He-46 was designed to be a two-seater for reconnaissance and close army co-operation roles. The first two prototypes were sesquiplanes with the top wing swept back 10 degrees with a much smaller lower straight wing. The third prototype did away with the lower wing and the upper wing area was increased by 22% and was braced by struts to the fuselage to become a parasol. It had a ring in the rear cockpit for a single 7.92mm MG15, plus it could carry either a camera or 200 kg of bombs. By 1934 about 500 He 46s had been built and by 1936 the Luftwaffe’s reconnaissance wings were all equipped with the He 46. In September to November 1936 28 He-46C-1s were given to the Spanish Nationalists. The Hungarian Air Force also received some He-46s. The Luftwaffe He-46s were replaced by more modern machines such as the Hs-126 by the time Germany invaded France, but continued as trainers. The Hungarians used their He-46s during Operation Barbarossa and were still in service as late as 1943. In 1943 the Luftwaffe took some of the trainers back from training units and formed squadron-sized units for night-bombing harassment missions over the Soviet Union.
Nicely done Chas.
That looks fantastic! Great work on the model & photos
Beauty. Love the SCW aircraft
Very interesting machine, and nice mottling.
That's an excellent representation. The history is very interesting as well.
Really nice work, Chas. I particularly like your airbrush work.
Excellent result! I love SCW subjects.
Fantastic build of a very interesting plane, Chas!
Models from Planet models are not exactly easy to assemble. So beautifully built and very well done camo. It looks very good indeed.
Very nicely built model and great photos.
Very nice model of a rarly seen aircraft.
The mottled paint-scheme was new to me for german aircraft in the spanish civil war.
Excellent result, Chas @chasbunch
An unknown but very interesting aircraft.
Very nice - paintwork is great. Well done.
Top work, Chas @chasbunch! 🤩 Man, that's one we don't see that often and your version looks so good! 👍
That turned out great, Chas. Thanks for sharing. I’ve considered buying one of those from time to time.
Wasn’t aware to the fact this kit even existed. Great work overall, especially the green mottling. Looks much more like an Afrikakorps machine than a Legion Condor, so thanks for posting. Thumbs up!
