BAe/IAI "Zeron" GR.3 1983

May 19, 2024 · in Aviation · 14 · 227

Part of a little known project by the IDF and developed jointly by BAe systems and Israel Aircraft Industries to evaluate the possibilities of small outposts in the Negev desert which in times of conflict would operate independently making strikes against targets chosen by themselves and then disappearing back into the desert. The project was considered a success tactically but was ultimately cancelled due to difficulty maintaining secrecy when resupply and maintenance /repair were required.

What happened to the aircraft after the project was cancelled remains a mystery ,some believe they were used by the British in the Falklands conflict others maintain they are in storage along with the small number of Lockheed F117's used by the IDF to perform the same mission but with the advantage of being able to return safely to base using stealth technology instead.

Obviously this is all tip top secret so please DO NOT divulge any of the information contained in this dossier to anyone outside of iModeller...

  3. A very nice Harrier, Neil @neil-foster
Especially the tail art is amazing.
Never knew the IDF was looking into that aircraft as well.

  4. Thanks for your kind words John but it's time to fess up , the whole thing is a figment of my imagination. In my eye there is a similarity in shape to the A4 Skyhawk which looks super cool in IDF camo so I thought why not a Harrier ? by the way Zeron is Hebrew for Harrier,Thanks to Rafi for that information.

  5. It coulda been, nice work!

  6. That’s an interesting concept, Neil. What kit did you use? Looks like an old Airfix 1/48 GR.3.

  7. Now that is a horse of a different color! Nice build, with a side of creativity!

  8. It was an idea that's been on the back burner for years.
