1/48 P-40E Warhawk, Colonel Robert L. Scott

June 2, 2024 · in Aviation · · 16 · 407

This is the Amtech (AMT) , finished as 'Old Exterminator' of Col. of the AVG.

While the kit itself is an easy build, to bring it up to acceptable standards requires a resin cockpit, wheels, seat, photo etch gunsight, and a homemade vacuform sliding canopy. Finished with Tamiya acrylics, and weathered with oils and pastels.

Thanks for looking,

Colin

  1. All the add-ons paid off handsomely. I am wondering whose wheels you used, and did you put hypodermic needle pieces in for the gun barrels?

    • The main wheels and tail wheels are my own resin castings of the Hasegawa kit. The tail wheel strut is brass wire and 2 diameters of thin wall tubing, and the main gear struts are from the kit, but heavily modified to be more accurate. The guns (and exhaust) are from the kit, just carefully drilled out.

  2. Your extra work and attention to detail really improved this model. It looks great.

  3. Nicely done, Colin. Love the headline photo. Such a great angle and shot.

  4. Excellent work done, Colin @tail-dragon
Those extras definitely made it look even better.

  5. Great work (as usual) Colin. Yes, the kit needs all of that, and with care, a result like yours is possible for others. I really like the look of this.

  6. I've always liked Robert Scott's P-40. You've done an excellent rendition of this Colin (@tail-dragon). I have this Amtech kit as well and will build it someday. I have the necessary aftermarket to upgrade it.

  7. Fantastic job, very nice extras and a wonderful result, Colin!

  8. Solid model. Granted the Amtech doesn't have the detail of the Hase, but one thing that drove me nuts about the Hase is the number of inserts and the needed sanding/filling caused by said inserts.

  9. Great build of that Amtech kit - the extras really make it pop!

  10. That is a great-looking Warhawk! Well done.

  11. Looks great, Colin! I like that kit too. I just build them closed canopy and leave the open canopies for my Airfix and Hasegawa P-40s.

  12. Awesome P-40! Col. Scott's "Old Exterminator" has long been a favorite of mine. I always love seeing another beautiful P-40 model posted! Great job.

  13. very very nice!
