41 - 1/12 Tamiya Honda VFR750R

June 17, 2024 · in Automotive · · 17 · 180

This is a really nice kit, the only down side is the very thick decals that have a tendency to crack over the curves of the bike.

I decided to do one side clear as that was an option in the kit - so the beautiful engine could be displayed and the other painted up.

A really fun kit in the usual unbelievable Tamiya quality, only let down slightly by the very thick and fragile decals.

  1. @anthonyricco. REally really nice result! I do dislike the thick decals too, next time try the hairdryer method, works pretty well.

  2. Turned out great, Anthony, love that Honda colour scheme.

  3. Superb result despite the challenging decals, Anthony!
    Well done!

  4. @anthonyricco - Great build Anthony. I am surprised by the decals... is it an older kit? The 1/12 Repsol I did a while back seemed like the decals were really nice...

    • Hi Brian - thanks a lot - not too old - I think its a late 90's kit - the Tamiya decals are thick, great on flatish surfaces but the ones on the back had to conform around some curves and didn't like that. Their car decals are also like that - I've learnt now if its a large area of colour then I'll rather just spray the colour.

  5. A wonderful result, Anthony @anthonyricco
I like your approach to leaving one side transparent, making this beautiful work on the engine visible.

  6. Outstanding job! I have this kit started, now I have the inspiration to finish it!

  7. Japanese decals can be very thick and do dry out quickly (though this is mainly a Hasegawa issue). A great recovery though.

  8. Must be bike season. Another great looking model
