48th scale Hasegawa Macchi C.202 Folgore
Greetings & salutations fellow modellers!
I present to you all my latest "bird". This kit was purchased from my best friend for a mere $10 American. As he has multiple copies of this kit along with the C.205, it was no biggie for him to part company with it.
Built straight from the box: no ups, no extras. My first WW2 Italian aircraft, I hope to make more. The particular airplane I made this up to represent appealed to me not only for the colorful Italian camouflage scheme, but also because the real aircraft had the starboard wing replaced with that of another Folgore painted with the familiar 'smoke ring' pattern. The color profile is from the Osprey book I used as inspiration. Used Hataka lacquers from their Regia Aeronautica paint set. No putty or filler used because I did not wish to get bogged down with sanding and replacing detail βΉ Mainly because I am terrible at rescribing! The fit turned out to be very satisfactory anyway. Masked the canopy by hand and installed prior to painting. Added small details and applied Flory clay wash and AK weathering fluids to give it a more "in the field" look as this airplane served in N. Africa. Nothing in that theater of operations ever looked "clean & shiny". The decals were a mixed result. The standard markings came off the sheet ok, as you can see. The personal markings of this aircraft simply "shattered" when they touched the water. Oh well!, all is not lost, I will search for a decal sheet and see what I can find. Look forward to making more Italian aircraft, mostly because of the eye-catching, challenging and various paint schemes. Perhaps a Fiat G.50 will be next. Thanks for viewing and keep on modelling!
What happened top the photos?
My apologies Tom. Thought I had loaded the photos when I posted the article. Hope you like them.
It looks very good. That's an interesting scheme.
Well done
Thank you George π I have more photos but can't seem to locate them.
Excellent paintwork, Jim! I love that kit.
Thanks John. Couldn't resist making this version when I saw it in the Osprey book.
Very nice Folgore with mix and match schemes.
Thank you Dan. The unique scheme is what inspired me to make this. Lots of fun to paint, my first effort at the 'smoke ring' pattern.
A very nice Italian build, Jim @jaltergott6
The scheme is really good, I like the variation.
Thank you John! One of the best OOB builds I've ever experienced. Great fit overall with very little cleanup required. A saving grace for me; filling, sanding & restoring detail is not something I excel at.
Very nice, Jim.
Talk about getting two birds with one stone, great camo work on both sides.
Thank you George! It was a fun project from start to finish. I wish they all could go that way π
Jim, that is a beautiful C.202. Really well done.
Thank you very much Russell! A fun build all around π
Love it! I always enjoy the one-off and odd-ball schemes. Your paintwork and weathering are very nice also. Well done.
Thanks Greg! First time I tried the Flory thick clay-based washes on a model. Previous to this I had only tried them on paint mules and miscellaneous items from my spares box
That looks really great, Jim @jaltergott6! π I like the unusual scheme too; I've recently completed a 109E-7 with a replacement wing as well. π
Thank you Gary π This was a welcomed change of pace and a different kind of challenge with the paint scheme.
Excellent job, Jim! Very attractive scheme, perfectly done!
Thank you very much Spiros π
Look forward to making more Italian aircraft. The paint schemes are very colorful and a challenge that I want to take on.
