Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc by Arma Hobby.

October 25, 2024 · in Aviation · · 14 · 215

Arma Hobby's new 1/48 scale IIc got my interest after reading excellent reviews on their range of 1/72 scale offerings. Since I have a soft spot for the Hurricane, I have several completed models on my display shelves from Hasegawa, Airfix & Italeri, I bought one of these as soon as it appeared in the shops. The price was a bit of a surprise; shall we say it was a bit on the high side; but (there's always a 'but' with kits) the mouldings were beautiful & fit turned out to be just about perfect. In the end, my only reservation was the wing rivets, which made decal application a bit of a nightmare (lots & lots of setting solution). If I do another one of these I might even shave off the wing rivets in the areas outboard of the undercarriage, even though photos show that they are really there, but not, I think, as obvious. Lots of parts, many of which seemed smaller than a pin head & far beyond the abilities of my eyesight. Most were in the cockpit, so I just left them out: no matter, I just pressed on. So much for my critique!

The model represents the aircraft flown by Sqn. Ldr. Robert Stanford Tuck,DSO, DFC plus 2 bars & the AFC. Couldn't resist it! In the end, I was very happy with the result, despite the rivets & some tiny parts. Hope you like it!

  1. Great result Tony. That’s a nice looking hurricane.

  2. An excellent Hurricane, Tony!
    Well done!

  3. Nice work on this, Tony.

  4. Very nice! I've built two 1/72 ArmaHobby kits (one a Hurricane), and I have to agree that as lovely as they are (detail, fit, etc.), they are a tad over-engineered. Many of the minuscule parts would easily have been molded to their location point. As you have shown, they build up into a lovely model!

    • Thanks Greg. There seems to be a race to see who can produce a kit with the most parts! It all adds to the purchase price & I still tend to prefer a simpler approach with the emphasis on accuracy & fit.

  5. Beautiful finish Tony. I thought the Hasegawa had a lot of itty bitty parts in the cockpit. It looks as if I had better prepare myself for this one. My Optivisor has gotten me through to this point, but I suppose the time is coming to focus on the 1/32 portion of my stash.

    • Thanks Russell. I suppose I should get an Optivisor as the downside of 1/32 scale is simply storage space when complete. Most of my builds are 1/48, but I do have a few irresistible 1/32 single engine fighters.

  6. That's a beautiful Hurricane, Tony @tony-prince
You did a wonderful job on the painting and weathering.
This Arma Hobby kit is still on my wish list.

  7. Very nice looking Hurricane! The painting looks very good .

  8. Thank you Jay. I mostly use Vallejo Model Air these days, but I still love my dwindling supplies of Model Master.
