1/72 KP Spitfire PR Mk XI

December 9, 2024 · in Aviation · 9 · 191

This is my first completed model for the year. I had a lot of other things going on and did not manage to finish much this year.

This is the 1/72 KP Spitfire MK XI. I have wanted to have one of these USAAF Spitfires in PRU blue in my collection for a while. If it was not for deciding to pin the landing gear AFTER painting decaling and weathering the model and of course drilling through the wing, it would have been done a bit earlier.

Markings are from the kit with the exception of Barracuda Decals wing walk lines and prop markings as well as a few stencils and depict a aircraft from the 14th squadron 7th PRG based at Mt Farm, Oxfordshire, UK. I sanded off the framing on the windscreen, reworked the fuel filler cap forward of the canopy, filled the hole in the fuselage camera port and added a beam approach antenna to the lower fuselage.

The model is painted with MRP paints.

Now time to clean off the workbench and start something else!
